Is it my phone or the game?

I regularly play for long sessions so that my base cannot be attacked while I am gathering resources and then I log off for a long break to ride out my shield. There have been many times over the course of the months that I have played clash of clans that I will put my phone down to let my army build and I will come back to it less than 5 minutes later to see that the app has closed (and I have to log back in to get back into the game). I should point out that this happens less than 1% of the time I put my phone down and turn the screen off. It is not a common occurrence. And I am not talking about what happens when you don't touch the screen for 5 minutes and you are booted for being inactive. I am talking about the app closing entirely in less than 5 minutes.

The reason that I post about this now is that, while I have grown used to this happening periodically, it usually is not a problem. I will check my phone a minute or two after the app has closed (because I check it every few minutes to make sure it does not time out) and log back in with no problem. However, with the barrack boosting that is going on there are a lot more raiders than usual. The last two times this has occurred I have been attacked during the very short window that I have been logged out. Luckily both times were simply TH snipes with no extra loss of resources, but both times I have found myself stopping play because I don't want to waste a shield knowing that the next attack against me may not be so lucky.

So I ask the question, is it the game or my phone that is causing the app to close like this? Have any of the rest of you experienced the same phenomenon?

if your device screen turns off ( regardless of time period 1 min or 2 min ) , then the app closes automatically .

It does happen to me sometimes too. I think it is working as intended.

also, when CoC closes, does your screen lock too?

In the case of my phone (an LG G2) I can press the power button (the one that turns the screen on and off) and it will turn the screen off but leave all apps running in the background. I do this all the time to save power. Every time I put my phone down I push the button to turn the screen off. I am not truly turning the entire phone off (like when you hold the power button until the entire phone shuts down) I am simply turning off the screen so that the power consumption is lowered. The battery still drains faster than usual because the app is running with the screen off (it uses less power when the app is truly closed) and I know the app is still running both because it is still on when I turn the screen on and I can hear the troops coming out of the barracks while the screen is off (in those rare cases where I actually play with the sound on).

The screen locks whenever I push the button to power down the screen or whenever I don't touch it for 1 minute (though I can change how long this takes if I wish). I have to unlock my screen every time I pick up my phone to move the screen to keep me logged in, but I am normally still in the game as normal even though I have my screen off and locked.

how do u know whether or not you log in the game while your screen off ??

anytime, the screen turns off , I turn it on and I log in the game again .

If I keep my volume on I can hear the game working while my screen is off. I can hear each time someone comes out of the barracks and if I turn the screen off during a raid (not something I would normally do of course) I can hear the sounds of battle in the background. The screen is off, but the phone is still working (like when you are talking to someone on the phone and the screen goes black but you are still connected to the call as normal).

I am asking cause I just bought a refurbished one for 250$ and started playing when battery was full and after 3 hours non-stop it got to 28%. Is it about the same for you?

A few things that could make this happen: either you sometimes forget to tap your phone the second before you shut the screen off, you're actually off for longer than 5 minutes, or turing the screen off affects Clash in a different way than you think.
