TH8: Where's all that elixir I am supposed to have?

After the Halloween update many TH9s were complaining they couldn't find any elixir to raid because the TH8s they normally pick on were now spending it on walls. After the Xmas update, much complaining from TH8s because they didn't have anything to spend elixir on now that they couldn't buy walls.

I am early to mid TH8 and all I can say is where is all this elixir I am supposed to have? While I was TH7 my 4 builders never stopped. Now I have 2 builders dedicated to gold upgrades and two dedicated to elixir upgrades. I struggle to keep the lab and the 2 elixir builders busy. I don't seem to find other early to mid TH8s with a lot of elixir either. Mid to late TH8s with no lvl 6 walls and a significant number of lvl 8 walls are impossible for me to loot if it's inside the base in storages.

Can he farm in Gold 1 with level 4 units ? I mean I will be th8 for 4 days, so which league is best ?

Even in th7 elix is problem but gold not at all. Gold is just okay. What is best league for low th8 with level 4 units?

I farm in Silver 1.

I can find 200 000/300 000 elix in silver 2 but from th6. But no more in th8. I am also curious what is best league to farm for th8 beginners.

Gold 3 is the best for early TH8. Lots of TH7's there

Don't worry, every time you upgrade a town hall the going is tough for the first couple weeks. Keep at it and you'll find the elixir just ends up appearing in your storages. You do have to adjust your game play and raid style as you climb up town halls. The game does change.

If you are decent in raiding, you can get to storages!
Try changing your trophy range too!

I have been in gold one for a week and I bring in anywhere from 150k to 300k of each a raid... It's not spectacular but it works

Im a mid th8 and I struggle to keep my elixer low. Its always full. Maybe change the way you raid.

I typically just BARCH in gold 1, 2, 3, or crystal 3. You have to go where the loot is, it moves around from day to day and time to time. If you cant find it change leagues.

I am barching, 90/90 and 10 WBs BK4. I am in Gold3 right now. Have been up and down from Silver 2 to Gold1. I don't seem to find much in Silver since going TH8. Most bases there are below 100k/100k for me. (Penalty maybe?) I went through 50 to 60 matches once and didn't see anything worth hitting. I see a fair number of 300k/300k bases esp in Gold 1, but as I mentioned in the op they are all upgraded and I can't get to any storages unless they are behind the first wall. It is rare for me to find a base over 250k/250k that is in full collectors outside the base or behind the first wall. What should my expectations be in terms of what I can hit? Is there some attack type that gets an early TH8 into the middle of an upgraded TH8?


I have changed my raiding from TH7. There I was Gob raiding, 140 Gob, with barch and WBs, I often cleared out the loot doing this but lost trophies. Most raids were over 200k/200k, often over 300k/300k. I used a hybrid Giant/Healer with Barch as needed to keep my trophies in Silver 1 and 2. Those days are over.

If your Barch is level 5 you can spend TH8 in crystal 3 if you desire (ideally low crystal 3 with trophies in the 1900's except every two weeks when the league restarts and you need to climb back up to 2000). 100 barbs and 100 archers cost 30k elixir and the league bonus for crystal 3 is 35k so you will profit on every battle you win with barch no matter how little loot there is in the base. The lower leagues will probably result in more gold and elixir but in crystal 3 you will have enough DE to full upgrade your BK and do every DE lab upgrade without even trying to go for DE.

This is how I did TH8 (during the elixir shortage no less) and had more than enough elixir to do almost all my wall upgrades with elixir. Now that elixir is back to being unusable on walls it will instead result in your having more elixir in your storages than you can possibly hold.

I have way toooooo much elixir max 6 mill for a week Christmas update has brought back the loot

Town 8 is the biggest transition in the game. Adapt or die

There is plenty of loot at G2 and G1, you need to work for it though. It's not given to you, you need to take it.

Ok but what does that mean? Is it a slog of 150k/150k raids? That's what i am doing now, it just seems that I would have more loot per raid after what I was getting as a TH7. Or am I missing TH7 and low TH8 bases to take it from by not being in the right trophy range? Or is there different attack that will allow me to get storage loot from upgraded TH8s?

If i'm finding plenty of elix at th9 and able to continuously farm walls with it and keep lab busy etcetc, i'm pretty sure you are just doing something wrong..

Try being a TH10 :(

Just farm in a league that has tons of th7, mostly goldIII or gold II until you can get barch to lvl 5... Also, dont go to crystal until barch is lvl 5, you wont profit there and it will become a pain in the butt.

Good questions..

What my experience has been (cause I seriously was in your shoes a few months back with the same questions) is barch raiding in Silver 1 - Gold 2 was (again my experience) by far the easiest range to raid for gold and elixir. I didn't always, but most commonly found 150-200K+ bases to raid, keep in mind that some days were better than others of course.

If you're not already really good at barch, trust me, you'll get good! Hundreds if not thousands of barch raids will get you really efficient at barching! You can go only barbs and archers, no wall breakers or anything else for primarily collector raids... that was very effective for me. Then if you want to be able to penetrate the base a little better, maybe be able to get to some of the lesser protected storages, add in anywhere from 2-8 wall breakers. Keep in mind that by adding in wall breakers, the overall cost of your army you are using can go up quite a bit considering wall breakers are at least 2000 elix. Despite that, if using wall breakers makes it easier to net 200K+ gold/elix, then obviously, it's well worth using them. I had a ton of success with this composition and still use it heavily as a fresh TH9.

I MAXED (walls, lab upgrades, everything) TH8 in a couple months from 95% barching. It's just so darn cost effective.. At first I was using Giant/Healer and compositions that I had been using heavily in TH6 and in TH7 but lvl 5 barbs and arch are very powerful and WAY more cost effective than Giant/Healer. Once I started to realize that, I pretty much went all barch because it was awesome stacking millions of loot in hours flat. I loved it. I pretty easily kept all 5 of my builders working at all times.

You still can find some TH6s with tons of loot and despite the loot penalty, they're usually easy to 3 star but mainly just get good at steam rolling TH7s, if you're TH8, once you get your barbs and archers to lvl 5, it's a wrap. TH7s will primarily be your bread and butter.

If you want more of a challenge, barch your way up into crystal and you'll be able to get de far more quickly as well. Obviously as you get into crystal, you'll find more TH8s and 9s and you'll start to come across some TH10s too, so generally the bases get harder to penetrate up there... gold and elixir is attainable but it's not as abundant or as easy to come by (again, was my experience, prompting me to drop back down to Silver 1 - Gold 3, where once again, I far more abundantly found much easier bases to raid hundreds of thousands of resources from).

LordKaz thanks for the tips. I managed to raid up the 2.25M for another lab upgrade, but it was a slog. I didn't have a single raid at or above 200k/200k. I was in S1 and G3.

I realized we got on a tangent discussing attack strategy. This doesn't really address my original question, but I think I have some additional insight. I believe the discussions I have seen regarding the "excess" elixir that TH8s have applies to mid to late TH8s not early to mid like myself. The gold costs for maxing a TH8 are far greater than the elixir costs. In addition, much of the elixir cost in TH8 is in the lab where only one troop can upgraded at a time. And now the upgrade times are long enough that elixir can accumulate if not spent on other items. I my case, I have dedicated 2 builders to upgrading elixir items like barracks and DE drills and storage. I notice that many players will only upgrade one of their barracks to the max level and stay that way for some time. I tend to try to get them all upgraded ASAP. It may be that I am not accumulating elixir because I am spending on upgrades more heavily than other early TH8s. A rough calculation shows that I have around 33M of elixir expenses remaining at TH8, only 12M are outside the lab. I suspect once I finish those and only have lab upgrades to spend elixir on, it will begin to accumulate.
