OP meant total defense wins which seems pretty average to me

If people read the title properly... The. OP says " total", meaning a maxed out base, all the thousands of dollars he has spent for so little defences. What do we learn the OP asks, we learn that offence is the key to success, farming your base will not get you on the leaderboards.

That having a lot of time combined with money can get you to #1.
