Gem Boxes

48 hours to claim or have it stolen is way too short a time period.

If I were to assign a time period, it would be ONLY when they would have gotten a second gem box. Since it takes so long to get a Gem Box, and you would have to be very inactive to let it sit that long, and you can't have more than one anyway on the field, that would be a more than fair period of time to claim it.

This is all academic anyway, since Supercell will not allow such an unfair source of free gems to be made. It heavily bias toward active people, and to a simple act of hitting next until you get lucky. You have to do more than just hit Next several times in a gem box rich area to score 25 gems, or even a small fraction of it. All you have to do is look at the Achievement list, or how seemingly random* and small the obstacle clearing reward is to see you need to do more than that for your gems. (*as far as I know, it is not random, but still averages 2 per obstacle, with obstacles spawning no more than 1 per 8 hours).

The gem boxes you kindly leave in our bases, how about putting a timer on them? If you had a timer of 24 hours or even 48 hours which counted down, similar to the shield. And then after that ran out, the next person to attack the base would have the option of attacking the gem box too. You could put a high hit value on it so it wouldn't be a quick steal.

This would encourage people to spend more time checking their bases.

This is a rubbish idea it is my gem box and I don't want people stealing it.

This idea has been suggested many times so pls use search.

Also just out of interest what do people use gems on?? I have 1300 lying around I've bought no gems and I have 4 builders.

I recently found myself in a situation where I would not have an available builder for five days. L7 Teslas take 12 days each. I had all 4 upgrading and 8 million gold sitting in my storage, so I decided to upgrade one of my Xbows to L3, which takes 14 days. As a matter of fat, I did have a gem box spawn within 24 hours of that decision, so I had to wait over 4 days to claim it. In no way is it fair for you to come along and steal my gems, just because I raid often enough to keep all 5 of my builders busy. I'd love to see your reaction when you wake up one day and your gem box is gone because you didn't think about this going both ways.

This is something that many people think about. Some definitely for it, and some adamantly against it. Which to me, means that the idea has merit. I would propose something that makes it difficult to get the gems and limit the reward. This is how I think it should work:

1. The attacking player must have a free builder that they can deploy in war (one per attack). The hit points for the builder would be very low so that any protection for the gem box would easily dispatch the threat.

2. When the gem box is mined, (a)the attacking builder can, at max, steal 5 gems with the other 20 being deposited into the defenders bank or (b) the amount available to the attacker could be completely randomized 1-5 with the difference being deposited to the defender. This would make it a ♥♥♥♥ shoot for the attacker

3. The cool down time for the builder after such an attack should be quite extensive. Maybe a week? This would limit the time gem seekers would have an available builder to deploy for an attack. If a person has 4 builder and each builder is used in an attack for a gem box, the person would get maybe 20 gems and not be able to use another builder for anything for a week.

4. For those people that like the look of the gem box, I would propose a gem box look-a-like to be sold as a decoration. This could be used solely for aesthetics or as a way to trick would be gem thieves by deploying a builder in the wrong spot.

It's not a resource though, it's premium currency. There's a huge difference. Maybe the gem box itself is a freebie, but it's still real money that you're taking from another player

No one is taking your gem box. And I'm not going to do a search for an idea that is not going to work.

This idea keeps coming up because new people keep thinking up the same idea. They see a gem box in an abandoned base/village, and wish they had it. Then they get this 'great idea' as if it was never thought of before, and (thankfully) a small percentage of those people jump onto here and post it. Most don't do a search because they are lazy, too caught up with the idea, don't know how to search being newbies, or for whatever reason.

Just pat them on the head for the effort, and point them to the sticky thread with a list of ruled out suggestions. Can't blame them too much for trying to come up with a good idea. But like bases in this game, there are many that just aren't good.

I checked in the what is not going to happen and what isn't going to happen, and it certainly didn't feature a point on Gem Boxes...hence I put up the post.

Just so people do understand...I am right in thinking this is just a game isn't it? I wasn't for one minute suggesting that an attacker can take gems that have been banked. But anyone would think I am about to steal your girlfriend the way you are so passionate about the gem boxes...which to me is further reason to allow them to be stolen.

You have up to 8million gold in the bank, a large proportion can be stolen at any time...and yes it is gutting, but so what...that is part of the game...it isn't real, the bank aren't going to come and take your house away from you....a nuclear war hasn't just started in your back garden and Im sure you aren't going to die because of this.

I believe it has merit, you wouldn't give the whole lot away, depends on the level of attacker. Maybe have it so that you wait longer than 48 hours...it was only a suggestion, but I imagine the real reason for not allowing farming for gems will be down to the fact SuperCell make money from selling gems. And who can blame them, they are there as a business, and someone has to pay for the fact that they have a team of people creating this game.

However, it would give a new twist on the whole thing, and as already pointed out, bringing in a builder on the attacking would be quite novel, maybe he could chop some of the trees down too...lol
