Clan War Tournament [ Extended ]

Dear SuperCell ,

I Would Like To State That , I Have A Decent Update Proposal For The Game .. It Is About The Clan War Tournament .. Many Members Are Posting For The Clan War Tournament Recently . So I Thought About It Deeply . If The Clan War Tournament Feature Unlocks For Clash Of Clans , The Game Will Be Far More Exciting And Challenging From Present . I Am Writing Down The Features ,

Features :

1. 16 Clans Can Participate In A tournament .
2. The Tournament Will Contain 4 rounds . First Round > Quarter-Final > Semi-Final > Final
3. First Round Will Contain 8 Wars. Those Who Wins The First Round Wars Will Continue To Quarter-Final.
4. Quarter-Final Will Contain 4 Wars. Those Who Wins The Quarter-Final Wars Will Continue To Semi-Final.
5. Semi-Final Will Contain 2 Wars. Those Who Wins The Semi-Final Wars Will Continue To Final.
6. Final Will Contain The Last War. The Clan That Wins The Final War Will Win The Tournament And Get The Reward.
7. Those Who Loses In Semi-Finals Will Also End Up In A War And The Clan That Wins Will Get A Reward Too.

Demerit :

As It Is Said Earlier That Everyone Will Lose The Interest In Normal Wars , There Is A Solution For It Too. Those Who Loses In The First-Rounds & Quarter-Final In Tournament They Wont Get Anything In Reward (Except For 50% Reduced War Win Bonus If You Win The First Round Or Quarter) . So The Clan Leaders Have To Decide Carefully As They Will Fall In A Down Fall Of Extra Resources Gained In Normal Wars If They Lose In The Tournament. So The Tournament Will Be Much Challenging .

Match Making :

The Match Making System Will Work As It Works In Normal War . So It Wont Be A Problem For The Players Those Are Not So Experienced :)

Reward :

1. 50 Gems + Full Filled Up CC With Resources For The Whole Clan Members [ 1st Place ]
2. 25 Gems + Full Filled Up CC With Resources For The Whole Clan Members [ 2nd Place ]
3. 10 Gems + Half Filled Up CC With Resources For The Whole Clan Members [ 3rd Place ]

Rules :

1. With The Members A Clan Participates In The Tournament Remains The Same Till The Finals
2. If Anybody Leaves During The Tournament The Member Won't be Eligible For War Till The Tournament Ends .
3. The Member That Does not Participates In Each War Included In The Tournament Won't Get The Reward If His/Her Clan Win's The Tournament .
4. If A War Leads To Draw , Then The Best Performance Made By A Clan Will Win The War . [ Like Achieving The Same Stars With Less Attacks ]
5. The Participants In The Tournament Won't Be Able To Get Involved in Normal War as Long The Tournament Lasts. ( Unless His/Her Clan Loses Before Reaching Finals )
6. The Tournament Will Allow Only 1 Prep Day At The Very Beginning So Clans have To Donate In their War Bases Properly In That Prep Day As the War bases Will remain The Same ( Filled Troops ) Till The Tournament Ends ( or The Clan Loses )

The Tournament Will Take 5 Days => Prep Day + First Round + Quarter Final + Semi Final + Final

I think the reward would be hard to do- other than that I like the idea. Regarding the match up part for the tournament do you mean it'd work the same as it does in the league? It didn't quite make sense to me.

I think it's perfect...if my clan won, I'd love to have 3 million gold and elixir and 20000 DE(I think) they should add this how it is.

The Reward Is Huge But Don't you think The Reward Is Worth It ?? After A long Term Of Tournament Fights U Get Ur Resources . You Won The Tournament So You Definitely Earned It :D

Alrighty- that works. Just need to think of a suitable prize/reward.

I think that this is a great idea. But the rewards and matchmaking I think supercell would have to think about if they were to consider doing this. Bravo! :D

I feel like gems would actually help and could become the incentive for clans to actually try and win, thus, making the tournament more exciting. It probably wont be a reward though as SC might lose a bit of money.

Yeah , They Do Make A Gem Box Appear After Some Times Frequently In The Game .. :) As It is A long Term Tournament Like It will Take 2 ( Preparation Day + Battle Day ) x 4 = 8 Days To Complete Then It's Already Time For A Regular Gem Box ( If You Are Lucky ) ... So The Tournament Winners Should Receive 50 Gems Along Side With A Full CC Resources :) What Do You Think ??

50 gems should be about right plus the full CC resource. Battling 15 other clans and winning first place takes a toll on your resources so all in all, it should be fair.

This is an exciting idea .. I like it :)

There are two problems with the implementation of this idea.
1. Even normal matchmaking is unfair sometimes. How do you expect it to be decent enough for 16 clans without making at least one of them a notch better than the others?
2. 16 clans have to be part of a tournament. Considering that there are 9 ways in which a clan can participate in wars (depending on amount of players) and different clans will prefer to have their tournament on different days of the week (7), and there are a million possible ways in which a clan is made (Different town halls, rushed bases etc), can you imagine the time it will take to match 16 clans together? Almost more than a day, I'll say.

The solution to the first problem is something which SC needs to look into.
For the second problem, there can be a tournament counter every two seasons.
What this counter does is that it alerts every clan in Clash of Clans that the Tournament will begin in x Days x Hours X Minutes, and entries are accepted until a day prior to this.
So the match-making gets its own sweet time to group clans together for the tournament. (There will be a few clans that might get left-out...they will war in a smaller tournament).
Let me know if you didn't understand or have a suggestion.

EDIT: This also means that all (clans who sent entries for the tournament) clans in Clash will be participating at the SAME TIME in the tournament. This minimizes the reduction in number of clans who will prefer normal wars, since most clans will be busy with tournaments.

Haha! Let's try some easier English.
Let's say that your clan is an awesome clan who knows how to war.
But in the first round itself, you get matched up against that ONE "notch better" clan and you lose.
If you hadn't got matched up with that clan initially, you might have reached the Final!
This is a bit unfair, don't you think? Because the other clans got an easier opponent, even when your clan was the best organized.

I know another way which can solve this problem, which is the Round-Robin format.
The 16 clans are divided into groups of 4.
Each clan battles the other clan in their group for a week (three wars), after which they move into the Super-8 (2 clans from each group with most wins move ahead).
All clans that qualify for the Super-8 receive a prize. And the tournament goes on as you proposed initially.

EDIT: There will be a total of 3+1+1+1 = 6 wars per clan (which reaches the final) if the above is implemented. Total duration of the Tournament will be 6+2+2+2= 12 days, or if you give a one day gap before the semi-finals and before the final, then the tournament will end in 14 days or 1 season. Looks pretty good to me!
Also, each clan participating will have to do a minimum of 3 wars, irrespective of whether they win or lose.
There may also be a "Forfeit" button which allows clans to forfeit if they realize that they don't have a chance of proceeding.

Do you get the war win bonus if you win a war in the Tournament?
Because it won't be worth participating in a war to fight for a CC full of resources and 25-50 gems after winning so many wars.
You get 46 gems per week from obstacles, which don't cost anything significant to clear out.

Hmm...then winning the Tournament will be a Pyrhhic victory.
You lose more than you gained, because it is not easy to farm while you are warring. (At least not as much as you normally would).
If there is no bonus, members would lack incentive to win against tough opponents.

Maybe having something other than gems and resources as rewards would be more inviting.
E.g.
1. One week of boosted mines, collectors and drills for winning a tournament (the duration can be discussed later).
2. Boosted barracks, spell factory, heroes for winning a tournament.
3. Reduced gem buying costs for winning a tournament (discount on gem purchases).

As can be seen with these examples, none of them DIRECTLY give any gems. And each clan member can choose which of the three (or more if they are suggested) prizes they want as individuals.

Something on these lines as Ultimate Reward for winning a tournament would provide a greater incentive to everybody to participate in tournaments.
As for the war win bonus during a tournament, maybe it could be reduced by
40%?
So the war win loot is not as much as in a Normal war, and you get back most of the things you spent on troops.

The Thing You Asked For .. The 3 Rewards Those Will Ruin The Economy System Of Super Cell ... Because Many Members Buy Gems For These Things :) Henceforth They Will Not Add It ..

If It Is Reduced By 50% Percent Then It Seems OK :) In The Other Hands You will Gain Over whelming Resources If The War Bonus Is Not Reduced Greatly

But reducing the war win bonus by 50% seems a decent addition to me, rather than getting nothing at all!
The gem rewards (50 gems + CC full of reaources) still doesn't seem as attractive though. Maybe its just me...maybe we could think something better...

You See .. This Is The Gold , Elixir & Dark Elixir Gained When We Win The Tournament ( Depends On Our Clan Castle Capacity ) :) If A Town Hall Level 6 or 7 Gets 700 K Each Of G & E Aside 2500 DE For The Tournament Victory Then It Seems enough With An Addition Of 50 Gems + 50% Reduced War Win Bonus For The Past wars ( First , Quarter , Semi )

Consider the time it takes for making war troops and spells (around 2 hours for a TH9).
I can make more than 1million gold + elixir in the same time.
And, as I said, we receive 46 gems from obstacles per week + 1 gem box per season...thats roughly 125 gems per season. Adding 50 more to that doesn't really affect things.
Need a better incentive man...

You Always Have A Preparation Day You Can Loot Then And Give The Spell And Troop To Create 2 Hours Before The War Starts And After 2x Attack Back To Back U Gain 40 Hours For Loot Again :)

Well If Super Cell Gives Permission For These Types Of reward Then the Gem can be Boosted to 75 Or 100 For 1st Place :)

Looks good. I would still like you rethink the Round Robin format which I suggested. It helps in preventing unfair wars and lets your clan get another chance even if loses against a very good clan.

The Round Robin Tournament Thingy : Explained

1. 16 clans are bunched together by the match-maker.
2. These 16 clans are divided (by the match-maker) into 4 groups: A, B, C, D.
3. Each group has FOUR clans.

Suppose this is Group A:
1. Clan 1
2. Clan 2
3. Clan 3
4. Clan 4

The matches will be as follows:
Clan1 vs Clan2
Clan3 vs Clan4
Clan1 vs Clan3
Clan2 vs Clan4
Clan1 vs Clan4
Clan2 vs Clan3

That is, every clan battles every other clan in their group.
Suppose Clan1 and Clan3 win, then they move into the Super8 stage.

SUPER 8
This is a knock-out stage.
Total 4 wars and 4 clans qualify for the next stage.

SEMI-FINAL
Knock-out stage.
Total 2 wars and 2 clans go into the final.
The 2 clans that lose will be tied at 3rd place.

FINAL
Finalist1 vs Finalist2
One winner.

TOURNAMENT ENDS.

3. Each group has FOUR clans.

Suppose this is Group A:
1. Clan 1
2. Clan 2
3. Clan 3
4. Clan 4

The matches will be as follows:
Clan1 vs Clan2
Clan3 vs Clan4
Clan1 vs Clan3
Clan2 vs Clan4
Clan1 vs Clan4
Clan2 vs Clan3

That is, every clan battles every other clan in their group.
Suppose Clan1 and Clan3 win, then they move into the Super8 stage.

SUPER 8
This is a knock-out stage.
Total 4 wars and 4 clans qualify for the next stage.

SEMI-FINAL
Knock-out stage.
Total 2 wars and 2 clans go into the final.
The 2 clans that lose will be tied at 3rd place.

FINAL
Finalist1 vs Finalist2
One winner.

TOURNAMENT ENDS.

Overall great idea.....Just have two problems.

1. I don't think we should have 1/2 win bonus for losing in an early round.
2. I think that the cc shouldn't get COMPLETELY filled for winning. Maybe 3/4 full or something, but a full cc for winning the tournament seems like a lot.

A clan war tournament would be awesome but not just 16 teams but a lot more teams, maybe a subscription fee for the tournament like 50 gems for subscription... and the prizes will be depending on what is more balanced for in-game economy as you the idea of this not should be to overpower more the clan who are already overpowered but to have fun, hope they can develop more the idea of clan war tournament and the rewards :)

Overall, not a bad idea. But I would like the loot to be more TH level orientated, not CC orientated.

16 Teams are even Too Much if U See Right Because Due To Tournament U Can't Participate In Normal Wars & It's Not Likely That More Then 16 Clans are Finding Opponents At The Same Time For War , And There Won't Be any Subscription Fee as It Is Not Being Organized By SC .. This is definitely a lot more succinct than a lot of the clan war tournament request I've seen.

Its a great idea that I agree would be a great major clan war update. (however I'm obliged to make war opt in/out a more needed thing because of my signature :D).

I disagree with your loot distribution though.

I think that the winner gets a big prize (2x war loot)
2nd place: (1.5x war loot)
3rd place: (war loot)
4th place: (.5x war loot)

with this system, entering a clan war tournament would be a big gamble.

The other problem with clan war tournaments in all is the large amounts of searching that would have to occur, lagging and prolonging the wait. However, I think I would wait to take part in this anyways.

I see why it would be overwhelming, but I still think the fixed version is too "underwhelming" (:p). So maybe something along the lines of

1st place: 2.5x loot
2nd place: 1.75x loot
3rd place: 1.5x loot
4th place: 1x loot
5-6th place: 0.166x loot (current normal war losing multiplier)
7-8th place: 0.0833x loot (half normal war losing multiplier)

Sorry but this doesn't apply to me i don't go to wars at all so

Damn, hopefully supercell sees this, and also, would Clans be able to opt out of these?(As in decide if they want to do a normal war or a tournament)

I read through every single response on this post and would like to share my ideas:

1. Before this is even attempted, Clan to Clan matchmaking would need to be improved. I believe that this thread: http://forum.supercell.net/showthrea...mismatch-issue poses a viable solution to be implemented in a tournament setting. Of course, the que time would have to be increased to provide an adequate pool size for tournament match-ups. And the time spent matching would be increased.
2. All starting brackets would be matched up, and all clans in the tournament would (ideally) be matched to every other clan in the tournament. This would not only provide an even playing field, but also ensure that each clan has a shot at winning. This would also prevent it from being easy and boring for one clan, and impossible for another (an issue far to common in Clan Wars).
3. In my opinion, bracket style would be better than round-robin, simply to reduce server-load and time spent in the lower tiers of the tournament.
4. Individual tiers could very well function like a normal war. One prep day, one battle day, winner moves on, loser is out of the tournament. That is the longest I would want to spend per tier. However, I think a fast pace would be better, most easily solved by having only one prep day at the beginning and having all war castle troops remain the same throughout the tournament.
5. So that the clans remain well matched, regardless of whether or not there is a single prep day, upgrades started after the first battle day of the tournament should probably not change the tournament village. this is to prevent clans from entering into easier tournaments, then gemming all their defenses to ensure victory
6. Obviously, the clan members in the tournament will not be able to change between tiers. This is also to prevent 'beating the system' by by not allowing the best players to leave for matchmaking and return to fight.
7. The size and frequency of the tournaments are something that need to be ironed out. My idea is to model both of these after the existing League interface.
   
   • To provide enough time to build a large enough pool, I would propose that tournaments start once a week, or every other week, with an entire day devoted to matchmaking. I realize that people like to complain about having to wait for something before it's even an actual thing that they may have to wait for, but having a set time for starting tournaments would prevent loss of interest in Clan Wars, and is the only way to have any chance of accurate matchmaking on this large of a scale.
   • It could happen that the start of new tournaments would not match-up with the end of other ones. This would depend on how large the tournament is, and how prep days are handled (number 4, above).
   • The tournament size is something to be figured out. There could only be one size (16 clans seems like the favorite number), or it could be based upon clan size (larger clans have larger tournaments), or it could be the leader's decision (when joining the tournament que, there is an option of how large a tournament you want to enter). If there are different sized tournaments, winning larger ones would give larger rewards.
   
   
8. A tiebreaker system would need to be created, perhaps based upon effectiveness of attacks (attacks won, # of stars (new stars?) per attack, average destruction, something like that).
9. I would think that regular Clan Wars would not be an option while your clan is in a tournament, and if a clan has entered into the tournament que, the ability to start a new Clan War would be suspended if it wouldn't be completed before the tournament starts. However, this would not make Clan Wars obsolete. There are plenty of clans that would not participate in tournaments because they don't constantly warring, and there would be more and more clans losing out of tournaments that would have to wait before the next tournament starts.

Now for a couple reasons to have the tournaments, because having an idea that people want is as or more important than an idea that works.

1. Provides a streamlined way for clans to constantly war. Staying in a tournament would significantly reduce time spent waiting for prep days to be over, and would reduce elixir loss due to constantly donating war castle troops (if the above #4 is implemented).
2. Increase the loot bonus per tier (people will not want to wait until the end of a tournament to receive loot bonuses when they could just constantly war and constantly get loot bonuses), and have a special bonus for winning the tournament (this would be the only place SC would consider handing out gems, but they may just settle for a significant loot bonus, would probably depend on the tournament size).
3. Help solve war mismatching. Warring clans will want to fight in tournaments for reason #1. That means the majority of clans doing regular Clan Wars will either be semi-warring, semi-active, or have already lost out of a tournament. This will help separate the 'good' clans from the 'bad', resulting in them being matched up less often.
   
   • I realize that there will be some clans that will choose to sit out of tournaments with the purpose of preying on weaker clans. Hopefully there will be enough of them that they get matched with each other, or the tournament bonus is enough of a draw to limit that way of thinking.
   
   

Anyway, I hope that this wasn't too long, and I welcome any positive criticism or discussion of any/every idea that I have put forth.

Is The tournament Gets Larger The match Making Will Take Even Longer ... You Know Large Tournament With Small Clans Is very fascinating Because Small Clans Ensure 2x Attack most of the time so they Remain ( Mostly ) Active Till The Last ... From me reading it seems like the most disputed part is the winnings. My thoughts are that it goes:
1st:50%

4th:20%
5-8th:10%
9th-16th:5%
or with 8 teams

Notes:This is of combined loot so if you won 500k in each round and got first you would win 1 million in bonus loot

Also maybe have it so if you lose the first game you play a team that lost their first game and you could play for 9th instead of being out right away. If that is the case this is how the rewards are setup:

I love your suggestions and I also understand why you said No to Round-Robin.
I suggested the RR system because match-making is very ineffective at times. If match-making is *perfectly* fixed, then I don't see why the Tier system shouldn't work.

Also, the 1 prep day for whole tournament idea was genius!

not true. imagine lower leveled clans who mass drag... they do not even come close to getting that elixir back and gowiwi is far greater. Making the semi's should give half cc of loot, winning should give you the other half. Winner of finals gets full cc and 75 gems per player. Loser of finals gets 40 gems and full cc of loot per player. Winner of consolation gets half cc and 40 gems per player, loser of consolation gets half full cc

Let me first Explain The Reward Thing : If You Get 5-8 Gems Why Are You Even Participating In The Tournament ?? 5-8 Gems Are Normally Available Every Day , And 800K And 1500 Dark elixir Thingy Lol I get 2250 Dark Elixirs Normally In every War + 800K Gold/Elixir Is Too Less :v How Can You Imagine A TH10 Will Settle Down With That? ?? 1500 DE is not even a Big Deal In TH10

And Yeah There Are Awesome Organized Clans Too :3 Members In Those clan Doesn't Leaves Or Drops Out If You Are Meaning It , And Disconnections Huh ? Ok I love the idea of Clan Tournaments and would love to see this implemented. Let me add a few points/potential issues. You guys may have answers already but I'm just trying to think from all angles so this becomes a perfectly rounded proposal ;)

The basics all seem spot on, 16 teams, 4 wars, 1 winner. I also like the idea of 1 prep day but see a few issues here. Firstly, if they were to use a matchmaking system where a war starts at a specific time how do they decide what time this is? All clans want the war end time to be at a time their clan is most active this will be hard to tailor to all. However as previously stated other ways to bring 16 clans together could take ages! I think I may have an idea for this... So I see it as a second option you can choose after tapping the current clan war button, once in this menu you'd see "start war" and "start tournament" if you select "start tournament" you can then choose a start time from say 4 options all 6 hours apart (this would require some research and may need more or less time options, and some SC tweaking for best times), then it works like joining a poker tournament online, you'll see a list of clans filling up until it reaches 16 teams, these teams will have been pre matched using the matchmaking system to ensure teams are of similar strength. So once your lobby reaches 16 it starts at the next available start time you designated. Yes it may take a little longer but I'm sure we would all prefer to be in a war with a start time that suits the clan we are in.

Also the 1 prep day would mean if I was filling 20 spaces in a clan castle with one dragon, for example, and this stayed in that cc all the way through the tournament, I have potentially saved 75% what I'd have had to pay filling the same cc in 4 standard wars. This would be too much of an incentive to never do normal wars again. Because even if my clan only wins two wars and loses in the semi finals I've saved 66% on Dragon expenses. This could affect the amount of clans being able to find normal wars as so many others will be using tournament. And some clans may not be able to commit to a full 4/5 days warring and may wish to stick to normal wars, that's a little unfair on those clans. As much as I don't like the idea of the tournament taking 8 days I think it would be better to have a prep day still between each round. A lot of clans spend hours devising tactics during prep days so to win in round one and the quarter finals to start immediately could be a bit too full on. Plus the potential win bonus being made by each player within the proposed structure of a 5 day turnaround would mean far too much loot making upgrades much easier to purchase.

Remember SC structure the game to make money, they want people buying gems, if there is the potential to make 4 wars worth of loot in just over half the time it normally takes PLUS a tournament bonus then it probably won't be a viable option to them! just as an example, in my last war I made 600k loot, if I won a tournament and made that in each war I'd make 2.4million plus your proposed tourney bonus, let's say 50% that's 3.6million in 5 days (1 prep and 4 wars) that would currently take 12 days plus war search time in the standard structure.

I think this idea is brilliant i just feel it's unlikely to work with the current set up. It can work it just needs a lot of tweaking!

But i disagree with the part where people will lose interest in normal wars.

IMO, clan war tournament will REPLACE normal wars, so every war will be a tournament.

if you wish a normal war, just enter the tournament, it is the same as normal war. (What's the difference except the schedule?)

Some clans won't want to play two wars back to back and yet will obviously still want to win that first war.....

Normal wars cater to all in that you can have One war whenever you like. Tournament should cater to hard-core war clans and the game needs to keep everyone interested.

Valid point.....Not every clan will want the back to back to back to back war for the tourny... Would be nice to tourny once in a while and reg war the rest of the time.

Would be really nice if they had a "Tournament of Champions" every month/quarter for the winners of the Clan Wars Tournament. Only way you are eligible is if your clan won a tournament. Clan War Rank System...Clan War Leagues??...YES!

Now you're talking :) yeah I think as a clan we would probably do normal wars most of the time and maybe a tournament once a month. Tournament of champions could be a quarterly thing maybe.

Umm u Win Only 50% of The Loot Bonus For Every War Held In Tournament and it Will Take A lot Of Time To End So Some Clans Don't Have That Types Of Patience :)

Great idea! Rewards are pretty epic but hey, the people who win deserve it after using elixir to train troops for battles, discussing tactics with clanmates and other things they put effort into. Overall, i believe this is a great idea other than the fact that there's something missing i cant quite put my finger on...oh well. Good job!
