It really depends on the general level of your clan. The internationally accepted troop is obviously the archer for obvious reasons, as you go higher wizards and minions are a good but more expensive replacement. At the high end valks and witches are one of the best at defending and even lured to a corner they should be quite hard to kill. At the very end, golems and lava hounds being beast tanks can absorb tons of damage but they're useless if they get lured. My clan generally donates archers and the occasional wizard/minion.

I love having either 3-4 wizards 1 barb/goblin and 8-12 archers or 1 witch 2 wiz 4 archers and a barb/goblin
I also like having one of our th9 bases do a witch, 2 wizards a loon and the rest archers...just one (maybe two) to through it off. Having the same exact thing in every castle isn't the best strat.
I hate and I mean hate when someone asks me for a dragon though I love to see them pop out of my targets CC :p
