Im currently at level 7 for my king, halfway through getting enough resources for lvl 8. Never farmed for DE directly.
My drill + inactive drill raids get a solid flow of DE to me (ofc it gets taken out by TH9s easily, but still, its rising)
I think it's a problem getting this much DE passively, I get attacked far more often, and as a result, i have my regular resources taken. Which are a priority to me now.
Anyways, I think I will have my BK to lvl10 before I max my elixir+gold upgrades. Then goes the DE grind for lab upgrades. hehe

yes trophy is very important:
1) push to at least 2050 - 2100 trophy. There is not a shortage of DE in crystal league. so zappers are less.
The 100DE bonus for C1 and 200DE for C2 will cover everything.
2) put TH outside untrapped. (you already did)
3) upgrade DE storage to lvl4 to increase it health and avoid zappers to steal more
4) Dont play multiple times per day. just play in one session for 6 hours non stop. This way you only wiped out by a TH9 or TH10 2 times per day at most. But many times they just TH snipe you in high trophy range above 2000
