Should I stay TH8 or move on to TH9 without having maxed walls and teslas?

I'm the leader of a warring clan, and I'm unsure whether or not to upgrade to TH9; half my walls are lvl7 so I was thinking about getting them all to lvl 7 before TH9. As for my teslas, I was thinking about keeping those at lvl 4 for now. My biggest incentive for the TH upgrade here is getting my troops upgraded and consequently developing some solid tactics such as balloonion and gowipe. Also note that I have all elixir and DE troops maxed except valkyrie and golem. All the rest of my base is maxed, including barracks (all 10) and dark barracks (all 4); the new levels of mines and collectors will be upgraded after the start of the TH upgrade.

Is it worth enduring lower TH9 loot in order to upgrade balloons/barch... and stuff? Thanks!

Pekka available at 9 is the same level as 8....along with wiz and wallbreaker. I would say stay and max what you can, purple walls on a th9 is hard to recover from. Not sure if you realize how powerful upgraded teslas are also, I've seen my lvl8s split a max golem before ever getting to a defense.

Would anyone have raw stats or an idea about how matchmaking is affected between an almost max TH8 vs a new TH9? This might also help me decide

Get walls to level 7 and max the teslas. the teslas can play a huge roll in clan wars

People saying to max dont seem to know what they are talking about OP. I went to th9 with all purple walls. I got my AQ the first day and both xbows (saved for both from th8). I upgraded all 4 camps, got the extra spell and since then, ive been a way better farmer. Lvl 6 barch, ballons, lvl5 minions, the extra spell and more defenses make up for those silly walls. I got my skulls at th9 and lvl 9 walls and i never found a problem. I hardly get raided.

Im holding 50,000 De right now, using the mind blower base, and i havent been raided in days. I only get th snipes... All the real raids fail to touch my DE. Go ahead and stay at th8 for 100million gold and a lot of elixir... You will miss out on much better defense and offense offered by buildings. Once you get the 4 wizard towers maxed, people will start to raid you less...

100 million gold = maxed wizard towers, maxed xbows, maxed mortars, tons of goodiesl.
Lets say you make about 60 to 70 million elixir ( counting you spend a lot on armies )
70million elixir = All 4 army camps maxed (220), a new spell, barch to lvl 6, giants to lvl 6, ballons to lvl 6

Lets just assume you arent actively looking for DE, but make 400 to 500 a raid. Thats how much i can make when not looking for it, bases at 1900 to 2100 carry that much almost always. Lets assume you get 200,000 of each resource every raid ( ethier lucky or hit lots of next ), that means, about 500 raids to 100million gold.
500 x 500 ( raids vs average DE ) adds up to 250,000 DE...

So its your choice of , maxed offensive power, the ability to raid in crystal III, II and I, plus masters, hitting th10's for DE, 250,000 DE, maxed splashed defenses ( the new wizard towers is a beast in damage, plus the look is intimidating ), maxed xbows, extra 5 spaces for CC... Its that or 200 skulls that wont protect you vs a th9... A maxed th8 cant survive a good th9 raider. But a maxed th9 with purple walls will survive just fine vs a th9 :D

Back in 2013, i maxxed everything in my th 8 base. I was alot better off than many th 9 people who didnt max. Yes, you should max everything.

Max all defenses.

I would stay a TH 8 just to do walls, when you would be wasting Elixir. At least as a TH9 you can do your legos with elixir once you got a few skulls done with gold.

Yes, we went only with purple walls but your defense was probably maxed.

Only wizard towers and mortars where maxed. Archer towers and cannons where lvl 9, teslas lvl 3.
Most farmers use barch, and wizard towers and mortars are enough to defend vs that. At 1800 to 2000 you hardly ever get raided with a strong army. The strongest is giants with barbarians archers, and maxed splah with decent point defense is enough, plus spring traps.

Im sure the OP would enjoy raiding with the queen a lot. Doing skulls at th8 is super boring. Its the most boring th lvl of them all. Th7 gets 200 spaces, drags and a king, th9 gets queen, 220 spaces and a new spell. Th8 gets nothing worth a while. Its just a transition th, ha !

Like I said OP, everyone will come here telling you to max, good luck with that. I am sure you will enjoy going to th9 more and not regret it.
