Was Clash the First?
Was Clash of Clans the first game of this type?
And by "this type," I mean was it the first game that is exactly the same? I am a TH9 and with long build times, I have tried out other games to play during downtime. So far, I have downloaded two that are EXACTLY the same. Army camps, 10 unit barracks all the same units and positions, gold and "elixir."
It's pretty sad that people would ripoff another game with such blatantly obvious mechanics. So I will never pay for any of these knock-off games, but first I wanted to reaffirm that Clash was indeed the first.
P.S. I will not name these games because I don't want to advertise them due to their obvious theft of intellectual property.

Any time there is a sucessful game people copy it. There are a million Flappy Bird rippiffs, and Candy Crush clones, etc... People see a sucessful formula and they want to try and get in on it.

Yes Dan, I agree. So was Clash the first? I'm currently removing obstacles for "gems," "BARCHING," and maxing out collectors & storages at "TH3" in two other games right now. Oh, and I bought my first mortar and ranked up to 300 trophies in both games.

It's hard to come up with something completely revolutionary. The idea of training troops and waiting a week for an upgrade isn't new. I played Ev*ny (censored since we're technically not allowed to mention other games :p) before CoC was out and it was somewhat similar. Even Candy Crush copied Candy Swipe, I think. I can't remember how that legal dispute ended up

Yes Sirix, million dollar ideas aren't common or else we would all be loaded. But seriously, these games just copy-pasted the game mechanics, added heroes at TH1, and changed the graphics. They wouldn't even pass as "based on" Clash. I'm saving up to rebuild the "Clan HQ" so I can join a clan in this other game.

All of Sid Meier's games are turned based with upgrades, but the ones I played were against a computer opponent.

I have seen more and more games in the app store that are very similar to the "Clash of Clans" game-play. But I do think that "Clash of Clans" was the first, or at least one of the first to have this type of game-play.
-
No. Well before Clash, I saw a similar game.
The reason CoC is so popular is because (1) they have better graphics than any other game of its type, (2) its balance is impeccable compared to any other version, and (3) its mechanics are far more advanced and smoother than what I have seen.

Maybe it is maybe not who knows

There are lot of games "like" CoC before it was released
I was into this "type" of game before I played CoC (not on Mobile though, browser games)
