Sometimes they are even right too, and it keeps them from seeing why their policing is counter productive.

A lot of times the OPs are describing an idea they havethat is from a different point of view and wording so they don't see that it is the same as something already ruled out. other times they offer a variation so that there idea is arguably a little different from the ruled out one. In all those cases its more constructive to explain the reason for the rule out than to just wag fingers at them. Finger wagging is seldom constructive..

I'll admit I am a Sticky Cop and I post the usual "Read The Stickies" when it warrants it, usually the OP only has so much to say and is usually verbatim what the Sticky says is ruled out. As for explanations, its only possible to post explanations from speculation rather than SC's POV. usually there are exploits that can be taken from the ideas, so the potentials are explained, but other than that, there isn't much to do about it

Describe the exploits. That is one sort of explanation you can give. You are right that most of the time they see only the benefit and being nice guys that don't misuse things they don't picture how less scrupulous folks could misuse it. So explain that to them what that unscrupulous person could do.. it does help.
