Make a statue that absorbs part of the lightning spell. You'll need gems to purchase it. It might make the base more vulnerable to serious army attacks if you will, but won't reward the lazy zapper with Dark Elixir.
An alternative idea is setting modes for the walls: stronger walls vs lightning absorbing walls.
