TH8 | jenniifuh's farming base

Hi guys! This is my TH8 farming base. It has not been perfected yet so I am very interested in any comments, criticisms and suggestions you guys have!

This is the first time since I've been TH8 that my buildings and walls are starting to be at max so it's been tricky figuring out placement. There will always be buildings outside upgrading because the moment I do not, I plan to be TH9. The 3rd air defense is not included because I am going to be constantly upgrading one until they are all at max. The teslas could go inside the 2x2 squares or wherever there is space.

Advantages of Overall Design

• 100% staggered T-junctions prevent effective wallbreaker usage
• Compact design to allow focus of defenses in one area
• Highly segmented
• Seperated storages make it difficult to attain 100% of resources
• Centered CC, unable to lure troops out
• Balanced defenses and equal coverage

Disadvantages of Overall Design

• Exposed elixir storages (frankly, I don't give a bunny hop about my elixir but if you do this is bad)
• Dark elixir may seem easily taken, but when I carry a lot (20k+), this building will be placed in the middle of my base .. well and I'll need to rethink placement

Track Record
Here I have compiled a list of previous attacks, removing the ones which were simply for the free shield.. because tbh most attacks I receive are not serious and are just for the TH. They're out of order to show some of the more fail ones at the top.

If I see anyone using my base in matchmaking, I will give you free shield without looting you. unless you are like a 400k gold target.. then I will not resist.

Inspired by Junliang and subtletea.

It's easy to get 2/3 gold storages, 2/3 elixir storages and your DE storage. Once the mortar at the north is destroyed, your defense there has dramatically weakened. The 2 wizard towers can't reach archers shooting the gold storages.

Not to be a party pooper, but I think this should go into the base design thread.

Unless you have fully and throughly test your base out against th9, full lv6 armies, dual heroes, 4 spells, and have confirm your base to be strong, then sharing it with the community is okay.

But posting a work in progress base as a thread.. there was one yesterday, got merge with the base design thread.

Anyway, I don't like how you are protecting only 3 storages.
Bare minimum = 4 storages for TH8 farmers.

Nice base. Looks like it's almost time to jump into TH9. ;-)

If you time the last few upgrades with the Town Hall upgrade it'll save you some time also.

On topic, I see a lot of TH8's like this but with less developed walls. Lots of compartments, not great against a slow release of troops. I would hit this base from the top. Drop a few troops along the top, the CC activates once the troops hit the walls and i'd drop two lightnings on the Mortar destroying the CC troops coming out at the same time. Slow waves of Giants, Archers and Goblins working their way in are unstoppable. That's with maxed TH9 troops and there's not a lot more you can do with TH8 in terms of protection without X-Bows and the extra Wiz Tower. Most of my loots these days are TH8 and TH9's...

Jenni, you've got a very nice looking th8 base! I like pict two little better due to spaced out gold storages.

i would not pay as much attention to comments like "easy to take out 2-3 storages" or "test against th9 and lvl6 troops" as there is NO perfect base yet. You could have th9 maxed out, but golems, wiz, Pekanbaru and spells will 1-2 star it.

to the point... I only suggest moving th bit further away from arch tower and cannon, so you could get easier shields. As for now, some lover levels may skip your base to raid easier picks, thus leaving you to people like myself :)

Hm, I am referring to defense against an "extreme" Farming army, i.e lv6 barb/arch/giant, Lv5 wb/gob, dual hero and atleast 2 spells.
Who say TH9 with lv6 troops must be trophy hunting army ?

I know what you meant, but also did not want jenni to be discouraged. I didn't say to "dismiss" but rather not to "pay as much attention".

I think she would much more appreciate your input from a more experienced th8 farmer's perspective.

P.S. is it still coincided farming if someone is using two spells? :) just saying...

Those are constructive criticism anyway, which is needed for base design improvement imo.

Yeah.. hence the term "extreme" hehe.

On topic, I rather the 2 wiz tower be at the position of the Air Def, the area of coverage is abit lacking when being tucked so inside.

And those elixir storage position seems abit random, could certainly be use to "lure" attackers from attacking from a certain direction that would be easier for you to defend against.

Here is an example, where I put the elixir storage on the Right, to lure attackers to attack from the right, such that they would have to go through more than half the base to get to my precious dark elixir.

Pay not as much attention? The fact that once the NW mortar is taken out, her top side has no splash damage is a flaw. I'm not bashing this design, I'm merely giving out my opinion.

Agree with you as well haha..

Archers standing at the DE storage or top left elixir storage position, is out of range of the wiz tower, and the other 2 mortars as well.

You have a decent track rcord.

Here is my assesment of placement #2:

Overall a decent farming setup that is probably bypass by most farmers. Thanks for making a separate thread that allows me to comment on your specific base.

Oh yeah, if I were to attack you it would be from the NW side towards your DE.

Your top has more defense, the 2 top gold storages has WT coverage, your elixir storages has more mortar coverage, clan castle still semi-centered, mortars still in a triangular shape. All in all, it's a better lay-out with just a few switches.

I would think about what you want to protect if I were you. You're mostly protecting your gold, which is fine, but you also need to think about your DE storage. Once it has a good amount of loot, any DE farmer will attack your base for easy DE. This lay-out is good for protecting gold, not for the rest.

And experiment a little with the positions of your WTs. They can make all the difference in a raid.

Thanks for all the feedback!! I know the placement is bad.. but all these replies really highlighted the weaknesses. I'll try to come up with something better.

The reason I didn't post it in the TH8 design thread is that I'm getting a lot more quality feedback than I usually do. I think people should be able to have their own threads if it is an active working progress, has updates, and uses advice esp since it allows for more responses and active discussion.

Heh as for going to TH9, I was told as a general rule to be level 80 before that... but I guess level doesn't matter too much. After hearing so many people complain about TH9, I am dragging out TH8 for as long as possible. XD

Now, this is what i was referring too! Much better response than the previous "It's easy to get 2/3 gold storages, 2/3 elixir storages and your DE storage. It's easy to just say - I would destroy your base, thus brushing off needed constructive feedback. I truly appreciate the time spent on your second and very thorough response...even though it is not my base review. Kudos and rock on!

1) Your bottom left and top right mortars current position is great for wiz previously in your V2, but now that you change it with mortars, I rather you swap top left and top right mortar with the Air Def. Mortars centralise would be better. But wiz, pushing them out would be better.

Point 2 is more of nit picking, you can choose to ignore if you want.
2) Assuming elixir/DE is not of concern, 2 gold at top left, and 1 gold at bottom right. Wizard is the best protector for resource, and its not proportional to the amount of gold per sides.
At the top left its 1 wiz to 2 gold, at the bottom right its 2 wiz to 1 gold. Meaning if attackers attack from top left, and giants soaking your wiz damage while archer snipes the wiz tower down, your 2 gold storage is quite vulnerable.

Sorry on my iPhone now so can't attach pictures ATM. I agree with mr. Stark there. If DE isn't a concern, than base looks good. However, at some point you will need that DE to upgrade and will have another dilemma as to where to place it.

you already have an alternative design posted above and I wanted to add one more...just for review. You may find it helpful.

a good friend of mind, vilehelm in clan black&blue has fantastic segmented design. Very similar to yours but his is segmented to fit two items in each cell. He's had this base design for a long time, but he likes to keep his designs hidden from general public, so I may make m bit angry :)

anyway, good design and you've got two more to review. Can't wait to see your final!

That jakob base is easier to raid. Lightning the bottom mortar and it's game over from that side. I would have a harder time dealing with her mortar placement. I'd probably take out one of the side mortars and come in that way. Maybe tuck the DE storage behind the Town hall so they have to destroy it to get it.

Thats the cost of protecting 4 storage instead of 3 storage haha.
But agreed that his core is slightly "too open/explosed", but yeah, seems to be working for him.
But maybe adding two set of 3x1 wall to segment the inner core will solve the problem, either inbetween the DE/Mortar and inbetween Gold/Wiz or beside the CC.

That base looks a lot like my v1 in terms of placement but I chose not to go for that because it makes my gold storages easily lightning'ed.

When I have more DE, it is going to be a problem. I don't care too much for upgrading my BK atm, but my DE slowly builds up to the point where people can steal a lot and then it annoys me. As a TH8, gold is the only thing I care about right now. It is going to be another story at TH9 but then I won't be using this design.

Do you get that often ?
Kinda rare for me to see people zap Gold using lightning that they bought with gold.. lol ;)

Otherwise, I think your V1 might just be the best solution haha..

I've personally only had it happen to me once and then I changed my placement. I'm not sure how often people do it usually hm..... so if it's a weakness but 99% of people wouldn't do it, it's fine? Assuming that little people would do that.

And for that one time that happened to you, what level lightning was it, and how much gold did he take from you ?

But in this case, I would say yes, it should be fine, because the only time people will lightning that way is
1) Weaker players who know they can't reach the gold storage, so they just lightning and leave
2) Attackers who raided you, failed to reach your gold storage, so they just lightning and end raid

If a TH9 with 4 light spell appears, its not like his 4 lightning can take down 3 gold storage, in which zapping your mortars will be more effective for him.

But yeah, all these are my 2 cents/speculation. People can be weird and do funny things at times.

Reference: A Lv5 Lightning is 420 dmg, a Lv11 Gold storage has 2,016 hp.

Most of the time this happens when your DE storage is near your gold storages. I did have some th7 once attacking me with lightning strikes when I had 3 full gold storages together. However, it's a wish wash and there is no profit.

Not many farmers would bother with your base, unless they wanted to attack you because you 3xLS'd their DE or something like that.

Only question is the placement of your spring traps. Why do you like placing them there as opposed to outside your walls in likely attack points?

Okay, currently my top 3 choices for your base in order of favorite is

1) V1 with this configuration
Red: Wizard Towers
Orange: Air Def
Blue: Mortars

Pros: Better coverage by mortars, 2 wiz protecting the most crucial area of your base
Cons: Air Def slightly bias to top left, but its still pretty centralise, and at 1,200~1,400 trophy range, you shouldn't be getting huge Air Raids

But I still dislike how 1 wiz protects 2 gold, while another side is 2 wiz protecting 1 gold.

Looks good but from the right side, once that mortars gone that whole side is open. All the gold is there for the taking with a few waves of troops.

Jun: air d is really important to me since I mostly get destroyed by dragon heavy attacks. I've only gotten looted 200k/200k from those type. People actually use it at this trophy range. Also, a lot of people revenge me and tend to rely on dragons.

RuthlessBarbarian: I like that design! My bf likes it a lotttt and he is thinking of changing his to that. I'm going to still use this one and just improve it. xD

hb808 & facescraper: yuppp. I save the traps for when they have actually broken into the base. Sometimes I get barb, goblin rushed and they just go all the way around my base without going inside.

Great stuff, jenniifuh. Well-done on the organized and demonstrative write-up. You should have named it though! Your introductory photo suggests "Jenniifuh's Exotic Vacation Resort.' ;)

Anyways, regarding the actual design, it looks very sturdy. The staggered junctions are definitely its selling points. Splash coverage is quite nice, but could be a bit more balanced, ie. the triangular configurations could be more equilateral.

The 4/7 exposed storages have already been covered by others. My main concern about this design is the numerous single-building compartments. I personally think they are not the optimal usage of walls. You focused heavily on segmentation and combating WB's; creating a verybrute box'ish design. However, in my opinion, funneling is also an important aspect that all designs should incorporate to deal with higher level of attacking strategies. Something to play with for future designs.

This base has been very good to me in that I've been able to shift things around a lot and it still functions pretty well regardless of the config. The teslas are usually inside the wall but right now they're just mortar bait.

However ... it's weird but I don't think it works that well with everything fully upgraded, too crowded. It still hasn't been hit for more than 50k but I think the building to cell ratio needs to be more like 2.5 / 1. Might think about that when I get to th9 in two weeks.

BTW - Jenn's final base looks great. Very imposing.

If you time the last few upgrades with the Town Hall upgrade it'll save you some time also.

Lol their is still so much to do, only the tesla will take a month, havent talked yet about barracks, mines collectors, archet towers...

The nice thing about Vile's base is that the configuration of the defences isn't set, while he has his mortar on the outer rim, I don't. Depending on the contents of storages I can provide more cover as required, shift high HP defences like air defences into the paths leading to the storages, that sort of thing.

Interestingly we have several people now running the same basic design, but the layout of defences differs across those people.

Yeah, I focus heavily on segmentation and perhaps there is too much of an emphasis on it but it's so that my design is compact and defenses are all focused on one area. I find a lot of TH8 designs take up so much space.

Haha I was looking for an asian farming image but I settled for that instead when I couldn't find anything good.

I have a lotttt of tesla upgrades left, going to be a drag. With builders out for so long and no walls to spend gold on, I won't be able to farm much in my last days of TH8. ):
