Holiday Decorations & Their Spawning

Hey guys, so I have a question. With the new addition of the Christmas Tree today, I wanted to get input or a layout that would help me spawn the new Christmas around the border of my base or in the corners of my base.

Here is the layout I'm using to hopefully force one to spawn around my base or in a corner. I had one first thing when I logged on after updating the game, but I removed it because the placement ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me off.

SO yeah, can someone just let me know if I have the right layout going on for that or whatever, thanks.

Honestly I don't think it will make a difference. Test's have shown a reduced spawn rate when this is done. So the theory is that they will randomly choose a place to spawn, If there is something in it's way it will NOT spawn. So you will only be reducing the chances of getting a tree.

Edit: Why did you remove it. It will spawn present's worth 5k elixir. You should of waited until the holiday update was done and present's stop spawning....

Because like I have problems where my decorations need to be in a specific place, or else I get upset.

It's definitely nice when they spawn on the edges. I got 4 tombstones and they all spawned on the edge. I have a tree from 2012 though that didn't. It sucks working around it, and I have few others so I'll probably chop it down eventually.

This strategy I think is risky though based on reports from previous years. Who knows though.

Yea. So halloween i tried figuring it out. I actually put my buildings right to the edge...Bad idea nothing for two days so I freaked and pushed them in 2 squares. Basically it was a 50/50 shot and had a tombstone spawn half on the edge. So I did it one space away, and got 1 on the edge. I left my base messy to get a third and did, but it spawned in a white space :(.

Moral of the story, know how they spawn. Next gembox like obstacle you cannot leave any 2x2 square. I heard these trees are like other ones and don't spawn in white space. So for trees your base is perfect. For tombstones they would go almost anywhere (for future reference)

I hear guys who had bases in and got 4 on the edge which I feel is way too lucky. I also have seen many with 4-5 tombstones but all over the place. You may get less, but I am OCD and it NEEDS to be on edge so I run the risk of getting less, but will spawn in the right spot.

And low and behold I got 1 in the smack right in the corner :)

Like I said, it most likely wont make a difference. The only thing your doing is blocking a possible Christmas tree from spawning. If it was going to spawn on the edge it will no matter how your base is setup. If it was going to spawn 1 tile in from the edge then it wont spawn and you miss out on having a tree.

I question whether that's still the case. It doesn't sound like it affected your tombstone count (4) and it doesn't seem to have affected mine (3). I know two players isn't a good enough sample size to form any conclusions, but it seems like if limiting the available space decreased the odds, we'd have seen it. I definitely didn't notice any correlation to available space in-game or in the "tombstone leaderboard."

Its not about the "Special Item Count" its about the spawn rate. You might of been lucky and had a 20% spawn rate of tombstone's as it was a random spawn from the "pool" of obstacles available.

As far as being active during the time of a spawn, I've never seen one appear while I was logged on, though I have logged off, logged right back in and have had a new bush, trunk, etc.. I don't know if that was good timing or if the spawn was there, waiting for me to log out.

Update: After a few hours, a tree spawned in the border (outside) of my base. So I would say it does work, now I'm waiting from my Christmas tree.

Well, that's not exactly the case. Herpacleese only became a mod recently. He wasn't one back in 2013 when the discussion you quoted took place and he was speculating on the appearance of obstacles. You may have missed the opening paragraph of this old thread.

I don't know what you mean by "Its not about the 'Special Item Count'." I was questioning whether having limited space, only on the periphery, will reduce the number of Christmas tree today. I don't know the answer and I definitely wouldn't rely on speculations made a year ago on a different topic. It doesn't feel that I was affected during the last holiday spawn event due to having limited space and I hope that's not the case with Christmas trees either.
