I strongly recommend there is no need to make the style consistent as soldiers and Heroes are born with different.
Using roman numerals represents soldier's level because two means of Arabic numerals make people easily confused between numbers and levels.

At the same time, please remove the black background for levels, a emphasized enough numerals could work better and concisely... polishing, golden RN or whatever striking style...
BTW, the golden fire is a good idea.
I dont like numbers, i like the stars...

To tell the truth, I don't see the point of reminding me the level of my own troops, so go ahead and get rid of the stars and numbers for good (at least on the barracs)
It's to hard to cout if some one has 7 stars that's why I like the numbers. I do agree that the numbers look ugly but I rather have ugly numbers rather than to count the stars.
