"The old way it was" didn't allow you to use elixir for walls at any level. Making walls upgradeable with elixir crushed the games economy except for TH7 and below. Lvl9 and up is a step towards fixing what was terribly broken. Lvl10 would probably have been a better choice but at least this was a tangible step in the correct direction.
We survived before. You will survive now.

at TH8 thats all I have to spend elixir on outside of Lab upgrades which take days.

It didn't crash any balance at all! The balance crashed now, because there is no such huge consumer for elixir as a walls for gold.
Gold/elixir upgrade made it possible to balance resources at any level after farming. No we'll with no gold but overflowed by elixir...
The most significant ups for most expansive units is 7M-8M cost.

By doing this I look at is as a way for supercell to say, you know walls aren't important til lvl 9...but dark elixir is, so we r giving you another drill at TH 8 and a drill at TH 7(yay TH 7s to pick on) they also think elixir and gold is important
so we get another collector and mine lvl too. The only thing that would make this better is one free upgrade.
Yes, it did. I understand that you are new to the game and to the forum so you don't have the depth of knowledge on the subject that the people who have been watching this problem from the start have accumulated. Elixir for walls was an incredible failure and I hope simply dialing it back this small amount will be enough to reverse the trend. I understand that you don't like it but no amount of insisting, yelling, underlining, strings of exclamation points, bold letters, etc. will change the fact that even elixir for lvl9 walls may still be too low. It just makes people wrong more emphatically.

The previous state made it so that there was very little elixir in the lower town hall levels (7,8, occasionally 9). The balance has been changed and is now going to be better now that elixir will be more available to raid.
I'll be VERY appreciate you for explanation how does it breaks the game balance.
And I'll be no less appreciate you for the tip what would you do with your farmed elixir.
Uprating my walls for elixir I've never found myself lacking the elixir.
Awww is wou wittle TH's upset. DEAL WITH IT! The whole elixir upgrading walls thing made it so much harder to raid for elixir. I am so happy about this. More elixir means faster troop upgrades....which makes it easier to raid for gold. It also makes it better for those of us who play more then once every other day. It seemed like casual players could just dump all their resources into their walls then sit idle for as long as they want. This gives some incentive to those of us who are real gamers. Being upset about not being able to up walls is a short sighted view, this will help the game as a whole in the long run. Before the update that let you upgrade walls with elixir, walls were one of those things that were usually done at the end of a TH level, which is the way it should be. Without adding troops, this is the best update we've had in a long while, LOVE the hero life bar in the button, not gonna take credit cuz someone else probably posted it before me, but i did post that in a thread....go me.
It seems very clear to me now that it's the children of this game who are the ones wanting this back, while the adults with some knowledge of how it destroyed the economy are on the sensible side with wanting it gone. Just look at the posts by the people asking for it back for lvl 7-8 vs the ones who understand why it shouldn't have happened, it's night and day.

It was flex. As a result it provide you more options for balancing. You was over-golded - spend your gold for the wall. You've been over-elixir - spend your elixir on the wall.
Now you are constrained. You have no flexibility. Let me know about your style of the game. Really, I want to learn from you. Teach me what should I do with this elixir. My lab is working all the time. My baraks are almost upped to to top. And I have no gold to upp my defences, not talking about the walls.

BINGO!!! Do some research to enhance your understanding. Elixir for walls never should have been introduced sub TH10, maybe high TH9 . . . maybe. There are staggering volumes of information about this on the forum. If you actually care you will read them and come back in a week or two when you are finished (provided you don't sleep). If at that point you still feel the same way we will all know that you are simply selfish rather than just ill-informed. Because no rational, thinking, informed person would hold fast to the idea that TH8 is where the game should end if TH9 and TH10 exist. I understand that you don't like it. You have made that abundantly clear. Now go educate yourself why even though it doesn't benefit you it is still best for the game and the majority of it's players.

It broke the game's economy, forcing Elixir to be in constant shortage. Elixir doesn't need to be dumped into walls because it can be converted into gold by means of training troops born from elixir and stealing gold from other people's bases, but it doesn't work the other way around.

I don't know what game you guys think you are playing but there is no lack of elixir, all of you jack knobs calling people whiny and little need to check yourself and then jump off a bridge.
When I was at townhall 8 (pre elixir wall update) elixir just sat in the vats because there was NOTHING to spend it on while I finished upgrading walls. Of course its an easy target for higher townhalls to swoop in and smash you.
I've been all over the place farming from silver 3 to master 3 (testing out the loot bonuses vs loot consistency at diff trophy ranges) and I just don't see ANY drop in elixir at all.
I'm th9 with lvl 9 walls and not in my 20s anymore, so find another insult for me.😂
Sure you did, indirectly. Making it possible to dump elixir into walls at such miniscule levels (at TH8) effectively made TH9 and TH10 ineffective to play. I have two TH8 villages that I refuse to upgrade until the economy is fixed . . . and there is nothing that will get me to upgrade my TH9 to TH10, or even go back to playing it until the economy is either re-stabilized or obviously on the mend. Effectively, the change that you liked so much and are arguing so much for will be the thing you hate the most about the game in a few months because TH8 became the end of effective game play. Look outside your little box and look at the bigger picture. Elixir for lvl9 walls might be too low. Elixir for lvl7-8 walls never should have existed.

In the other words, you say that is't a way to make the farming obsolete. Farming with barbars and archers - is a wrong way to play COC. Is it what you'r trying to say? The gold I receive in the battle should be a product of good war instead of the voyage with goblins...
I can understand this and to get it as a point of view. I'm not sure it will make me to make more fun from the game...

Nobody has mentioned anything about farming tactics, but to entertain your diversion . . . It doesn't matter what type of army you bring to battle, barch, bam, gowiwi, drags, loonion, lavaloonion . . . if you are hitting next for 15-30 minutes then have to settle on a 100k/100k raid as a TH9 or TH10 the game is broken. Especially when TH7-8 can still find 200k+ raids with acceptable regularity. But because you refuse to do any research, look at the bigger picture, or accept what is widely know fact being shared with you by people who have been impacted by this for more than the last 4 hours we end up with "me first, gimmie gimmie!!!" as your final argument. Elixir for walls was a bad idea. SC realizes this now and is taking steps to fix it in hopes of repairing their game and bringing back players like me. Slightly longer term, they are hoping to keep players like you who will HATE elixir for walls a few months from now when you see what it actually does to the game.

Let's say I'm attacking with 100 barbars (8000 of elixir) and 100 archers (16000 of elixir)
All of this is 24000 of elixir. As an output of the attack I'll receive about 250K of gold and about 250K of elixir.
Let's suggest that I'll do 5 such attacks and receive about 1100K of each.
For the gold I'll upp my tesla. OK.
What should I do with 1100K of elixir?? My lab is busy for the next 5 days.
What would you suggest for me?
HAVE FUN! For crying out loud, there's more to do than Barch! Barch is a perfectly fine way to farm for walls or whatever, I'll give you that, but those aren't the only two troops you can use! Practice war attacks, or go kill a base with PEKKAs. You don't need to worry about wasting elixir if you're always full, so go waste it! The game is no fun if all you do is barch, at least I don't think so
Totally unbalanced now !! We do not have what to do with elixir after the update everything you can with it, forcing us to upgrade the town center without the updated defenses. Come back as it was !!
Now he's trying to change the subject to farming tactics. Think about it like this young man. You might not like vegetables, but they are good for you. You can say they are not, but they are. Elixir only for walls that are higher level than you can currently use is good for you too. No matter how much you want to throw your self on the floor and refuse to finish dinner. Vegetables are good for you, the sky is blue, water is wet and elixir for walls is bad.
How's that? By trying to inform a small cross section of players that their request will destroy the game? My how the definition of selfish has changed in such a short few years. Selfish is insisting that the game be changed to my benefit and ruined for everybody else as VandG and a few others keep insisting, not the other way around.
I'm not complaining at all I have level 9 walls, I just don't agree with the ♥♥♥♥ you guys are trying to throw. I haven't experienced any elixir loss, I don't have to attack town hall 8s or lower to get elixir. I don't mind pressing the next button until finding a base with a lot of loot that isn't 2 town hall levels lower than me. That's obviously what this is about

I liked the flexibility of upps and without complicated calculations about elixir incomes I can say that my game was very balanced before. I could play as I whanted. Now I can't and I don't understand what should I do with surplus of elixir.
If you have an idea where can I spend 1100K of elixir - tell me, please! One more time, my lab is BUSY for the next 5 days. Should I leave the game for 5 days and wait for the lab. Is it a big idea of the change?
If all you want to do is barch, then barch! Obviously you don't want to burn your excess elixir, so just let it sit there until your lab is free. Having consistently empty storages is the reason for the change. And so what if it gets stolen from you? Obviously you're making it up really quickly, so what's the harm?

If they had an obvious agenda against it they never would've allowed it in the first place. This game has millions of players with all sorts of different styles of play. Your data point of 1 and anecdotal evidence does not sway me.
SC has far more data than you and it is far more accurate.
I understand people are upset, but geez, things change. Walls are not meant to be built soley for the purpose of a resource dump. They can function that way, but if walls are a priority for you, then nothing should change. It will take a little longer. If you're upset that you'll have too much elixir, then nobody is going to feel sorry for you.
Furthermore, you have been given the great gift of greater DE production. Use that excess elixir to build stronger armies to raid for DE. Upgrading your BK and DE troops should be significantly easier than it was prior to the update. So instead of whining about the loss of a resource dump, seize the new opportunity presented to you.

a raid deadbase get about 1 mil gold and elix(troops cost about 100k)(3-4 raid)
b raid a with ballon get about 400k gold and elix from a (troops cost about 200k++)

b on the other hand do something terrible he got 400k gold and elix but dont constribute anything at ecomony on the other hand he just burn 200k elix so the ecomony get minus 200k elix

I am a new player, th8, very active. I have not once used elixir for walls, i do not see what the problem is? Between constant war, lab, and barracks upgrades.. i have a ton of gold, never elixir. ( only 4 builders)

There are plenty of "a" people. These people expect the loot to come to them. These are the people who sit and hit next for 20 minutes looking for 200K/200K raids. They don't find them, and they complain about loot. I am an "a" person during the day, though I don't often complain about loot, I just know I don't have the patience to train a full army to get the tough stuff
"B" people are the people who go to the loot and actively steal it from people. There's nothing wrong with this, and it's the way the game is meant to be played. They are not hurting the economy, that is a foolish sentiment. I am a "B" person in the morning and any time I've been offline long enough for an army to train

i just dump gold on elix and wall and lab research still i have 20 hours free
just get 1 builder empty and throw 6 mil gold on wall and 5 mil elix on wall too

In a few days everybody will have forgotten that elixir for walls was ever possible. No more need for me to waste my time on this topic. Good luck to those of you who keep fighting the good fight.
I'm at the mid th7. I'm wondering if i can max out everything at th8 later. I've seen th8 player maxed out walls using both, and that's really nice (and how lucky they was. :() With the new system, the elixir will be abundant, and gold is never enough.
And whats the 'unbalanced game economy' that makes supercell do this?
And if possible, please at least let the purple wall be upgraded into skull one using elixir. That's not too hard to farm gold until purple.
Having three villages myself (an almost maxed TH9, a "skip from TH6 directly to TH8" that is now 100% maxed TH8, and a "max every building and wall before next TH" that is now a new TH8) I can tell you with all certainty . . . upgrade everything before your TH. It only gets harder if you skip ahead. Much harder. Avoid the urge and enjoy the loot bonus until the last minute.
YOU'RE NOT EVEN SITTING ON MAXED STORAGES?! What in God's name are you complaining about??
Let me try and explain it as best as I can, which I think I can do as I was a TH8 on both my accounts before elixir for walls was ever a thing.
You've already upgraded your big ticket elixir upgrades. You've got your farming troops to lvl 5, and are now doing the "fun" troops as you don't need elixir for the necessities anymore. You liked the flexibility you had with being able to grind out your walls twice as fast as before. Hell, who wouldn't? So you were able to keep your storages below 500k at all times, sending your resources into the endless supply that are walls.
Fast forward a month. You're a TH9 now. You desperately need elixir to upgrade your offense so that you can overcome the loot penalty of moving up a TH, without having to use lvl 5 troops, 200 army camp space, only 3 spells, etc., to do it. TH7s are no longer viable farming options to you b/c of the loot penalty, so you have to hit TH8s. But, much like you did when you were a TH8, they are dumping their elixir into walls. So you are not able to get the elixir you need, to upgrade the troops to levels that allow you to hit higher TH lvls that the loot penalty forces you to hit. Progression for you at TH9 doesn't just slow, it essentially becomes stagnant.
This is what TH9s have been facing b/c of this update. Now take how difficult it is for TH9s, and multiply that by about 3-4x, and you see how it is for TH10s. This update never should have been implemented in the way that it was, which was completely unrestricted for TH7s-TH10s. It's still not the right solution, as TH10s continue to have to deal with going through depleted TH9/10s b/c the walls are allowed from lvl 9+.
So what are you to do with your excess elixir? (keep in mind you're not even remotely close to overflowing your storages with it yet) People have offered plenty of options with what you can do as a TH8.
But if you are seriously concerned about wasted elixir gains, do what I and many others did before this update even existed: go to TH9. You will immediately have a use for it, and can get your offense going no problem now, due to TH8s stockpiling elixir again. You didn't stay at TH7 when you had your important upgrades finished, leaving you with overflowing storages, did you? No, you moved on to the next challenge. Do it again.
People don't realize or have forgotten what makes these games continue to survive. Yes, a game must be fun and enjoyable to play. But if it is not making money.... Poof! Bye bye! It does not have to be fun for everybody to play. Can anyone guess who has to be having fun for this game to survive? Think about it for a moment.
Now, let's say it together. The game must be fun for the people willing to pay for gems. And the game must encourage gems to be purchased. The game needs to produce cash flow because nobody pays to get the game. This game does not have the balance or complexity of console or PC games like Star Craft or Diablo so it can't make money the same way. Ghosted hit the nail on the head. Either gem purchases dropped drastically, or enough higher level/paying players complained about not enjoying the game after the update. Or both happened.
Right now Supercell is hoping that of the people that are willing to put money into the game, more are happy with the update and will continue to open their wallets; and, conversely, only a small(er) number are disgruntled. It is nothing personal; it is business.
Personally, I would like to see Supercell, or any company that is making quality games, do something to remodel the current stale revenue system that everybody is using. I'm tired of the "slow-drip-line attached to the wallet" system. Makes me feel... Drained.
For all who want to believe that this whole change was based on some macro-analysis of the in-game economy... That is your right.
For those who are wondering, I am Griz and DaBare in the clan Nariive if you want to know my in-game particulars so you can tell me how I know nothing whatsoever because of my noobishness. Yesterday, before the change occurred, I did 3 raids for a total of 1.49 million in resources not including DE. In short, I was not feeling the pinch.
For those wondering what to do with your stockpile of elixir stuck in storage; sorry, your strategy just got hosed. You need to consider a new strategy for the future. Your short-term plans most likely have to be scrapped unless (cue Supercell's favorite song) you would like to buy some gems. Or you can grant Dahimi's wish and just put your storages out as a sort of free gulp of lemonade for any passersby. To help this strategy, please make sure to attack once an hour to replenish your stock and keep that pesky shield deactivated.

don't mistake me, i though it was exc upgrading walls with elixir too, but release pekkas, golems, witches, hounds and even dragons are expensive long farming time, so i stop using elixir for walls, and spent my money, first in defenses then in walls... do i mentioned the troops upgrades? so expensive too.

Me too, but the market for it simply isn't there. Honestly it's not really up to Supercell to change it. Customers need to change it by only supporting games that don't have IAP. There are a few games in the app store that are really good that don't follow this model, but unfortunately they make no where near the money that the freemium games do.
Collectively consumers need to change that by seeking these games out and buying them.
Our little side conversation was only partially on topic, but the middle of my bases I described to you was an extremely slow grind getting half of the TH6, all of TH7 and all of TH8 upgrades done on a TH8 revenue stream and that was back when the economy was still solid. I can't stress enough how your gameplay will benefit by NOT rushing your TH. Max your defense, max your walls, max the troops you use at least.
That's what you non-wall upgrading slackers get! HAHAHAHAHA!
I agree that the elixer upgrading was extremely helpful. Now I know I will have tons of elixer and never any gold.. good job supercell.. (sarcasm)
Lol. I read the entire thread. Thanks to VanG and his useless arguments. Look.. I barch so I have plenty of elixir. To make good use of them. I train power troops to improve raiding skills and increase donates. To burn 500k elixir on lvl8 walls is a waste. I can use it for 2 drag raids.
This broke the games economy instantly. Townhall 7s were the only ones who were helped after about a week.
Until discouraged to play ... came back with an old and horrible problem, stick with elixir stopped !! I'm in the center of village 9 and have no more to do with elixir. Now I will be forced to upgrade pro village center 10 has no defenses at most, since as always, gold is much harder to achieve than elixir and still uses much more !! SuperCell I'm sorry, but do not know where they got that was missing elixir in the attacks. Now besides bad to have gold to upgrade the defenses have to worry about updating walls and stick to stock full elixir. I hope to come back behind that decision because already discouraged from playing !!
When I first saw this I must admit I felt chea ted but when I look back I noticed that I have had much more difficulty trying to find elixer than before. I got my th 9 at the start of elixer walls and I thus far have only been able to get only my barbs and archers to lvl 6. No other troops. It was an absolute struggle to do it too. I'm bias since i'm working on my walls level9 atm, but there was a shortage of elixir since the update, so I say yes to the change.
I think waiting until lvl 9 is a fair compromise between making the higher lvl walls attainable and keeping the loot in the game at lower levels...
Agreed, with the new loot coming back into the game, we should have stabilizing loot in the coming weeks, and since people's elix storages are gonna be filling up as they max th8, more loot for the higher players to raid from us, and more loot to have fun with fun army comps
Supercell please change it back to upgrade walls at level 6 up to max with Elexier again! It is so hard if you want upgrade it to level 7 because of 200 000 Gold for only one single piece! If we can do it with Elexier too it would be faster and not that hard anymore! Please think of the players. We love this game, but we want enjoy the game without buying Gems! The update is good but the walls payment change was cr*p. ;) I would like to see the walls changes at the next update!

I'm all for it! I think they should maybe even go one level higher to only walls L10 & L11 as that seems to be where the major jump in price is but im not at TH9 yet so i'll decide more on that matter when I get there and see how hard it is to find loot at TH9.
As for now i'll be able to uprade my walls with only gold no problem, may take a bit longer but so be it. If it helps the higher levels with loot i'm sure ill appreciate it when I get there.
