I usually do, go after 7s. If I go after a level 6, it's in retaliation. 10s coming after 8s is harsh. So taking something that benefitted TH8 away, so that is helps the level above me is not fair. I wanna complain. But I'll just crawl through the game and save my cash.
Let me start by saying: I'm new on the forum and joined solely for the purpose of seeing why elixer wall upgrades were removed. I hated that I couldn't do this anymore but the economics of it make sense. I am a business student focusing in economics. Here's a real world scenario:
The great depression in the 1920s-30s. Caused in part by the theory of Trickle Down Economics... Stay with me here.
Much like what was happening in the game, this theory, IN THEORY ONLY, would work, however when a user (or business owner like the real world) hordes his resources (capital) for his own personal gain (ie savings accounts, stocks, bonds) rather than investing in either his town or army (ie employees, company to promote growth), the value of this currency becomes worthless, such as how the game would ultimately lose its value. Thus usurping the balance of power with the game leading to a, more or less, great depression within the game.
Believing that you as a user have the right to horde resources away simply for your own personal gain is not right. It destroyers the basic economic structure and balance of the system. I'm basically saying, if you are using all resources for yourself (rather than the community), you are no better than the tycoons of business during this real world era, you may gain some benefits now but long run (a few months of game time) you will lose just how those who are arguing my point lost. The game loses the point of playing.
I'd agree that yes upgrading via elixer was nice, but the ultimate point of removing this practice is to stimulate actual economic balance and growth within the game world. And this is coming from a casual maybe twice a day player who doesn't really attack. Yet I noticed this problem emerging immediately once every time someone attacked me I'd win, I've gone from 1278 points to 1488 points in a few days! Without attacking anyone!

I like that...so by it being too easy to upgrade walls, upgrading is too fast, therefor you lose the desire. I actually like that theory better then anything else anyone has said. It works in a circle...they don't need to tempt more people to buy gems (as was suggested earlier in this thread), if more people want to play, more people will want to give supercell their money, and everyone is happy.
I also want to point out the same people whining about too much elixir at TH8 are probably the same barchers that have not upgraded their dark troops. Train some giants and wall breakers and spend up you elixir to get that DE and upgrade your king and your dark troops. Don't worry about what was, use the mechanics of the game to your advantage. Now you will have extra elixir, make that work for you.
This isn't a problem for me as I almost never upgrade my walls with elixir.
I really appreciate this insight. I wish forums consisted more of this. Price of gold upgrades heavily out weighs the price of elixir upgrades in the long run even with out including the walls. I personally think the best solution is to add a new attacking mechanism similar to spells. Like a war machine factory which produces catapult ext.. or something used for attacking. This would follow the traditional gold for defense and elixir for attack idea about the game. It would fall into the upgrade category just like troops and spells and require one to save a large amount of elixir to upgrade. This would provide the stable economy and help to balance the elixir vs gold usage as well.
I believe the over all unbalance of gold vs. elixir upgrades is the root cause of this. I mean think about it... How many people have u seen complaining about how they have too much gold laying around because not all of their elixir upgrades are upgraded. I haven't seen any. I think SC may see this too and was attempting to balance in the wrong way. However to give something like that and take it away when people are basing strategies around this was a bad idea... I see a lot of new people on here, myself included because of this elixir wall. I admit it aggravated me that I will soon fall into that category of overabundant elixir.
So I say give us some more attacking toys to play with to balance the economy. My troops seem to have gotten dumber with their AI throughout upgrades over the past year anyways. This may also give a more balanced attack vs. defense battles at the same level as well.
Like I said 3 million times previously. The best way to balance the game is to restructure the gold/elixir/DE pumps. Make each TH lvl produce considerable more resources. Also maybe add a feature where attacking a player at your own town hall level would give you an additional boost of gold/elixir/DE per star earned. Also balance out the way we use gold/elixir for upgrades. Hitting these 3 areas would fix the economy overnight.

just want to say basicly in raid u will gain more gold than elix bcoz troops really costing

So basically you don't want lower townhalls to have a way to spend elixir so you can raid it for your walls? Right? This has been my point this entire thread. There is a better way for SC for balance the economy other than just letting our full elixir storages be your way to wall upgrades.
