Anti-repeat thread idea

This is stupid.

I used to very heavily moderate the "Wishlist" on a forum for a game similar in style to Clash of Clans, and we had the same problem there. Repeat after repeat, and the fresh, good ideas always fell off the front page. We didn't have any way to combat this besides instantly locking these repeat threads, but they still take up space on the front page.

These ideas are exclusive to one another, I'm not suggesting all of them be implemented

1) Moderate new threads

Have new threads be checked by mods or staff before becoming visible to the general public. This ensures that repeated threads do not get posted at all

A glaring problem here is that it would be a full time job. Someone would have to be checking this subforum quite often to deal with new threads

2) Disallow "Fresh Spawn" to create new threads (Most popular by a landslide)

A lot of repeated threads are by new members, and forcing them to view and comment on existing threads before posting a new thread might alleviate the problem.

Problem here is that it might encourage spamming to get them to post their "new" threads.

3) Auto-lock low-rated threads

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume this isn't possible, but if a new thread could be auto-locked after receiving a low enough rating (after a certain number of total votes), that would allow repeat threads to be forced down, but it would not prevent them from showing up in the first place. And this is quite a complex idea

I don't really expect any of this to happen, but I think I'm just trying to make a point here. I like seeing new ideas and talking about them, but the Idea forum is getting really...well, it's not much fun when most of the threads are duplicates. Even ideas that aren't ruled out are done to death (Heroes usable during war), and I just want it to stop.

So this is an "Idea/Feature Request", but it's for the forum, not the game

I'm all for number 2- 1 is tad difficult to do. We have a lot of users that use these forums and monitoring every new thread that pops up is... well- difficult is an understatement. We have loads of new threads pop up every hour!

Not very keen on 3. either tbh.

1 is being currently Implemented by a few members around checking, of course this is after post so...

Long time supporter of #2. Several ways it could be implemented that would work.

Ironically, this idea is a repeat too. But sometimes ideas get repeated over and over because they are good and obvious and its just because a lot of people see the need.

I would love to see #2 occur.

However it should time limited not post limited.

New accounts should have to wait 48 hours before they can create new threads anywhere on the forum.

Furthermore, new accounts should not be allowed to post in the ideas section at all for a week.

I think 1 would be feasible if only applied to the Idea and Feature Requests forum. This is where the majority of repeated posts occur and where most new members frequent. It's spam really. They sign up, make one post for sharing resources, then never post again.

yeah, I have been thinking the same. My efforts to explain why its not a great idea instead of just telling them its a repeat or ruled out is to discourage them from continuing. In the example you gave there are three guys cross pollinating.

2 is my favorite as well. I realize 1 is near impossible and 3 is more trouble than it's worth, but I just wanted them out there

If so, then oops. I goofed. I've seen it posted a thousand times in other threads, but I don't think I've ever seen this idea with its own thread. If it exists, then that's my bad
