Clan War Participation Toggle

I'm in a clan with a bunch of my friends and coworkers. We war twice a week sometimes more if we get a good winning rhythm going but there was a point when we started losing a lot. We took on some new members with rushed THs and were getting waxed every time. A number of our higher ups were struggling for elixer to keep warring and had to hold up upgrades they were saving for.
I think it'd be a good idea to have a toggle for war participation. If you're a higher level player with a good trophy count then you'd be able to sit out a war or two to get that troop upgrade you're saving for without having to drop your trophies enough to put yourself out. Or if your clan has exactly enough members that everyone wars then you'd have the chance to take a break from war till you were ready.
Any thoughts or opinions?

Or maybe you can cut back to war once a week? Low town hall players want to war constantly since they have very little drain on their resources while high town hall players experience a massive drain on resources due to CC donations. Warring once a week on a set schedule, not whenever someone feels like it, allows your high level players to save up resources and get their upgrades done and participate in war.

Sounds like the feedback has kept coming as requested by SuperSteve. Topic posted countless times, and no end of the request in sight. Very hot topic, wonder how many ppl would like this that dont chime in or even come to forums. Im sure they are working on it after so much response over the last few months. Any other clan wars topics this hot? I dont have stats, but im sure someone could make a good comparison.

I hope they're not working on it. Or if they are, maybe opting out players could cost the clan loot? Or I'd be open to the bonuses being bigger with larger wars.

why should larger wars get larger bonuses?

Jonny you know so much about everything, please tell us more, leak your sources, or is it purely speculation? Ill just wait for the next thread to pop up. Some things cant be ignored. As the kick, match, reinvite goes against the whole clan works together and is all in together idea as it is. Maybe they will just nerf the loophole instead to accomplish this. Just a thought.

This is a workaround that simply works. By implementing an actual opt out system SC will be approving it. Very different scenario. Also the fact that there are so many permutations of how this system should work it will simply cause more chaos than leaving it as is.

I think larger bonuses for larger wars is entirely fair and even called for. The outlay for higher members in a larger war to assist their team mates is a lot higher. I am sure this expense is limiting the larger wars, it certainly does for our clan as we stay to smaller ones. And geeez, the leader(s) have to work so freaking hard to keep a larger war organized it's nuts. It has been asked for by many on many many threads which in itself should speak to the consumers needs.

i would speculate that a solution will be incorporated into the game in the future. Not offering what so many of their customers desire would be little better than shooting the cash cow.

And we all knew this was coming. I'm a believer.

How it should work...



There should be a button (it can be a new one or the war shield can be
modified) that toggles a player as in or out.



Access to hit the button to toggle should go to the leader and the player in
question.

---- individual players cannot opt each other in or out

---- its an argument either way to give it to co as well - Good for clans where
co is a management job, bad for clans that give it out like candy. (I consider
the latter to be a sign of a bad leader)

---- A leader who abuses authority to opt guys in against their wishes are
really just hurting their own selves for how they are adding a risk to their
war participation. (the guy might then just not attack anyhow, if not seeing
eye to eye with leader he wont care)

---- A leader opting a guy out against his wishes has that prerogative to
decide who he wants in his war. And its still nicer than just kicking the guy
like happens now.



The status of a player is only a factor right at the time a war starts.
Instead of just selecting all eligible players from the total population it
will just be all eligible players from the opted in group.

---- Can even implement by leveraging the existing eligibility functionality
that currently is only driven by a timer.



After that everything works the same. The list of warriors from the clan is
rounded to an even 5 via the existing logic and then the matchmaking
calculation takes place also using the existing logic.



A player joins a clan with his eligibility set the same way it is today. (He is
in unless there is a timer)





Things that would not happen -

...A player cannot add themselves to a war after the fact. If they change their
status during a war it makes no difference until the next war when that status
is read at startup.

...This would not serve as a way to replace members that take off during war.
if they do that then there is the same affect on the war as there is today.
Unused attacks stay unused. (it will never change that this just stinks when
guys pull that stunt)

It's more of an accomplishment to win a 50 v 50 war than a 10 v 10.

Also, it would discourage people from opting out and ensure that 50 v 50 wars would still exist.

The lack of loot issue does. But it looks like they are about to address that in the coming update. As much as I want opt in/out I have to grudgingly admit that the loot matter was a higher priority for them to address first since that was doing more to kill the game. But now that they have perhaps they can turn their attention this way. This is hurting the game too. War is busting up so many clans that cant agree on a time everybody wants to go. So fewer opponents has risen as one of the complaints (harder to find a good match) And since many of those falling out of clans are moving on to other games its hurting the membership too.

Our clan wars constantly with breaks here and there, but constantly now since the loot went up. I spent a TON getting war castles filled. Usually around 30 witches, countless loons and wiz. And then I help fill reqs for lower players on war days. I spend a ton.

And then every war at 50 v 50, we come up with a strategy to beat the other clan. It's a customized plan for each war, then I help newer members with their attacks, talk them through how to 3* things, etc., then we have to watch every single attack to ensure players are staying on strat and using best troops.

It took us a long time to get as well organized as we are and we're constantly having to manage turnover and teaching new members how we war. Again, in these threads, I have to take a step back and realize most of you haven't ever been leader of a clan with now 60 wins mostly at 45 and 50, so you wouldn't know what it takes to have success at that level.

If SC gave you what you are clamoring for so you can play more casually, give those of us who like warring big and often a bone too.

I don't think you have to worry about that. There is a contingent out there that feels the larger the war the more exciting and that anything less than 50x50 is....less. Those folks will always be going all out regardless of opt in/out features. Adding the feature will not change their habits.

What you might lose though are the 50x50 wars that are in reality 50x30 because a clan has guys not participating but they don't want to kick (say its a group of friends or family). Sure that's an easy win if your motive is just to beat someone up and steal their lot. But if you war for the thrill of the competition you want some of them out of the way so you can draw more opponents from the 50 guys that mean it crowd.

I can agree with the fact that it takes a lot more work on the leaders' part to run a 50 vs 50 war. My clan cut down the donation costs by subdividing into groups of 5 for defensive cc donations. But I could see how that might not work with larger groups. So I could get behind the idea of their being a larger bonus depending on class size for wars.

This has happened to us twice now where our clan has broken up. We all like playing together but sometimes people just want or need to break from war for a little while to get their loot up to upgrade something. This has caused some heated splits between those that want to war and those that don't. Plus the situations when we war only to have 5-6 people not attack(so we lost 10 attacks) and say they were busy those days and couldn't find time. If they were gonna be busy that could just opt out for that war then rejoin again for the next. It beats leaving then rejoining and reassigning col leader status, etc. Or dropping trophies so low that it puts you out of the war but then you have to fight double hard to get back up.
It'd be an easier solution than just kicking the player out. Even for clans that aren't made up fully of friends. If a noob joins a clan for the first time, they can opt out and watch from the sidelines for a few wars to get a feel how everything works before just getting thrown in the fire.
I know its been talked about countlessly but I just wanted to make sure the people at Supercell still knew that this is something that could make for a much less stressful game. Maybe not for the higher people that have been playing this game for so long they are masters at it, but for those more casual players that love the game but need breaks from time to time.

Well ya do have a way of sitting out a war you don't want to be in. Quit the clan and rejoin after they are paired. A clan leader or even coleader is capable of helping your with that. If you're worried about a new member's performance, tryin growing your clan to 50. One or two noobs doing a bad job isn't a sink or swim proposition. There are 50 enemy bases and you have 100 attacks.

The trouble with this whole idea is what it will do to war in general. Our clan wars at 50 and it is already hard to find an opponent and when we do, they are either way overpowered or way underpowered to the point that troop levels, not skill determine the outcome. This will make it much worse for clans like mine who take everyone to war every time. Spell factroy upgrading? You're still going to war with us.

All I can figure is there are folks here who have found a good clan which donates good troops, bu they are too lazy to be bothered to attack twice in 24 hours.
