All most people want it them available during wars. That's all I want. I don't mind them being down in normal farming.
The heroes are available on defense in clan wars whilst upgrading, so why not attack?
I've heard/seen that a lot, in high level wars strategies such as GoWiPe and GoWiWi do not work without heroes, so they have to be gemmed ready.
You know SC has increased the availability of gems tremendouy over the last year right? I think they have been very generous to the point where a dedicated player doesn't ever need to buy gems.
For people who war back to back it's your choice. Plan accordingly, skip a few wars if you can't attack with out the heroes. Again, the game already favors offense.
Implementing 1 gem boost for a update that introduces a new level of collectors would be stupid. Think it through, everybody would be upgrading their collectors and would not have time to gem boost them.

You want parity in offense vs defense? Then give me zero-cost troops, so I'm not taking a huge gamble every time I try to raid someone.
Supercell tries to hit that sweet spot between offense and defense where O has enough of an edge to (theoretically) allow 100% wipes, but not enough to let mouth-breathing idiots get three stars merely by licking their phone screen.
How well they've succeeded at any given moment is a matter of opinion.
I understand your reasoning and your frustration, but as stated previously, SuperCell probably won't fix it.
How much do people spend in gems making it so their queen or king is instantly ready for battle? How much do they spend in gems instantly healing their king or queen? SuperCell makes too much money to change the way things are. Maybe they'll change it for being available during defenses (maybe), but unlikely during war. Some of the more serious clans gem their TH and the heroes when faced with a more difficult opponent.
Bottom line is that SuperCell won't change something to make it more enjoyable for the players, but rather for themselves in earning money. If that makes any sense.

I do agree with being able to use heroes while they upgrade but you've given the worst example lol. Every troop is balanced, they have upsides and downsides. Only giving the downsides makes a pretty bad argument

The current 1week war, 1week quit the clan for upgrading heroes I've been doing for the past 6months is getting extremely annoying and made me play less and less
