Loot might be better, but getting that 50% will be harder (so it'll be harder to maintain rank). Your archers die faster, your barbs die in the same rate -> army dies faster. Many buildings get more HP, so destroying them will be harder.

If you look at the stats for the Archer Tower, Archers and Barbarians on the wiki, you'll see that there won't be much of a difference in barching.
Key differences are that lvl 13 Archer Towers are able to clear Archers lvl 6 and 7 twice as fast compared to before.
Lvl 12 Archer Towers can now clear lvl 6 and 7 barbarians 25% quicker, in 1.5s now vs 2.0s before.
Will it make that big of a difference for barching? Not that much until you come across higher level archer towers.
imho the update will discourage barching and encourage storage raids, create a better balance of players attacking with different attack strategies (not just barch) and that means that there is more likely to be a better range of targets available for different players and different troop makeups. So far to me it looks like a well balanced update - not just a barch buff which is all people are asking for when they demand a steady stream of abandoned easy bases.
The 4th mortar didn't slow me down. Nor are the Archer Towers. Will I barch th10s? Nope. Did I before? rarely.
Well, you can always barch inactive bases 2 th level below you and return here to show-off your billion GG, citing how good you are as "farmer". Either that or moaning about the lack of loot.
they better not release level 13 cannons or we are screwed, we need some new troop levels pronto, with this update the most powerful force is air attacking so i better get my balloons going to level 6, I know supercell are gonna have to add new levels to balance out this op defence, so my solution, more level 7 troops and a level 6 rage spell.
It'll be a viable strategy for pushing too. I've barched to crystal 1 TH 8 with the fourth mortar, I doubt an increase in attack speed will stop people from pushing. At most people trying to push will be a bit more cautious around archer towers. And the increased HP doesn't matter if it's relatively unprotected.
Rate of fire has a massive impact on effective dps vs theoretical dps. For example let's say you have a max archer tower that does 98 dps and fires once per second, and they alter it so it still does 98 dps but now fires twice per second. That means each shot deals 49 damage. Max archers have 48 hit points. This means the tower will now kill two per second instead of 1.
Similarly max barbs have 125 hp. Currently it'll take two shots at one per second to kill one. However with the above theoretical scenario the tower would kill the barb using 3 shots in 1.5 seconds. This means it kills one extra barb every 6 seconds.
It will make getting that 1 star while BArching harder, but there will also be more loot to steal. Not only are they injecting more gold and elixir into the game with the extra mine/pump level at 8, but they are giving the first drill to TH7s and TH8s while at the same time taking away the option for 7s and 8s to dump excess elixir in to walls.
When you look at it, this update is going to add a LOT of loot to the economy.
