Clan War Participation Option

We started a clan consisting of friends & originally participated in wars of 10. Since then, we accepted more friends, significant others and children of our members. We have now grown to 19 members currently & doing wars of 15, of which only about 10 who actually partake in the daily wars.

We are now at a dilemma, since we are finding it increasingly hard to be competitive - it's like we are competing in 10 vs 15 wars. Like anything we have our "hardcore" guys and our "pedestrian" players - just like the Guilds for MMOPRGs, we had our raids & members who were friends, but chose to quest & just chat occasionally. The way the wars are setup, we'd have to kick / alienate the members that don't partake in wars, even though they enjoy the game for the other aspects like whether it be for base development, the occasional attacker, or just hanging out & chatting with everyone ? There are also instances where people go on vacation, busy with work or take short sabbaticals from the game. We want people to enjoy their vacations without having to worry about being kicked for a real life events.

I'd like to request an option for clan war participation be looked into & added. Ideally, it would be both player-sides & Leader-controlled. Players can "opt in" for the wars, if they want to participate. The Leader would have the ultimate option to include / submit the players who will participate in the wars. This way trophies won't matter (don't have to be the top say 10 or 15 members), Leaders can include certain war bases (even if the player takes a sabbatical or doesn't plan to attack) to meet the current "incremental of five" war setup - and we could keep friends in the clan without kicking girlfriends / wives and kids, not hurt their feelings and / or turn them off to the game because of the former reasons. In order to have our wars of 10 members, we would have to kick 5 members (down to 14) which would include a significant other (who would stay in a clan that doesn't support a real life significant other), a work colleague (how do I face him at work ?), a nephew (we love our family, don't we ?), a seven year old child (it's like being told they aren't old enough to do anything) & a person who is serving our country in the armed forces (sorry, you got kicked since you're dedicating your time to boot camp & protecting our country...) - you get the gist. I think it would benefit the CoC community & it's members.

Thanks Emerald for the reply & reference. I do respect the opinion of SuperSteve, but it appears he is only seeing it from one perspective. As noted in our current situation, its currently the "opt-out or we'll kick you" situation - we want to alleviate that & enrich the clan experience for those that want it all. There are those who are just happy to be in a clan of friends, won't be the hardcore gamer and have that "all in" philosophy. We don't want to alienate those players, but the current system does just that.

We'd hope the leaders are not all tyrannical, and will be fair about this control - players always have the option to join / leave if a clan doesn't fit their ideology. Just like setting 'required trophies' or 'invite or anyone can join' options, the game allows the leader to set limitations on clan membership...a simple slider of "opt in / out" for war, just like we have "music on / off" would benefit all. Additionally, it would go work better than the current trophy rated system. We are finding players that don't want to be included in wars "sandbagging" their trophies before wartime by curving their playtime or purposely dumping them to avoid being included in wars (OR conversely creating competition among the borderline players to have more trophies than their friends so he himself can be included while he pushes his friend out of the war). I feel the occasional player who likes climbing up the trophy ladder, but has to dump all the work that's been put in throughout the week so they can avoid the war - exhausting & counter-productive.

Please give the individual players & members the choice to get what they want out of the game - I feel the pros far outweigh the cons. Let's hope SuperSteve and his team revisit & reconsider this option for the betterment & longevity of the game.

While it is contrary to what so many of you want, this is the single most important statement made in Steve's response. While opt-out is not ruled out it is clear that SC would prefer clans stick together instead. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

It could be a "if you havent attacked in a week) or something so if they want to war, they attack, if they are inactive they dont war.

Actually its ok for him to start a new one. For one thing he wanted a poll. Also, its best that as many voices as possible continue to raise this until SC does see how great the need is. Since they want to keep their customers they would have good reason to add a feature that would please so many of them, especially in a case where the absence ogf that feature can lose customers.

Actually its better that he start another one. Se want SC to see how great this need is and how many want it. That is better accomplished by many threads.

Also there is a small a small but vocal and nasty bunch of detractors that have managed to get the other threads shut down by putting up a lot of very personal and derogatory comments until the moderators have no choice. So existing threads that can be added to are in short supply.

I run a well organized war clan so I am in the contingent that wants this to use as a tool to better organize. (I don't consider kicking a good tool) My clan rules would not change if they added it, I will just be equipped with a smoother way of implementing them.

How it should work...

There should be a button (it can be a new one or the war shield can be modified) that toggles a player as in or out.

Access to hit the button to toggle should go to the leader and the player in question.
---- individual players cannot opt each other in or out
---- its an argument either way to give it to co as well - Good for clans where co is a management job, bad for clans that give it out like candy. (I consider the latter to be a sign of a bad leader)
---- A leader who abuses authority to opt guys in against their wishes are really just hurting their own selves for how they are adding a risk to their war participation. (the guy might then just not attack anyhow, if not seeing eye to eye with leader he wont care)
---- A leader opting a guy out against his wishes has that prerogative to decide who he wants in his war. And its still nicer than just kicking the guy like happens now.

The status of a player is only a factor right at the time a war starts. Instead of just selecting all eligible players from the total population it will just be all eligible players from the opted in group.
---- Can even implement by leveraging the existing eligibility functionality that currently is only driven by a timer.

After that everything works the same. The list of warriors from the clan is rounded to an even 5 via the existing logic and then the matchmaking calculation takes place also using the existing logic.

A player joins a clan with his eligibility set the same way it is today. (He is in unless there is a timer)


Things that would not happen -
...A player cannot add themselves to a war after the fact. If they change their status during a war it makes no difference until the next war when that status is read at startup.
...This would not serve as a way to replace members that take off during war. if they do that then there is the same affect on the war as there is today. Unused attacks stay unused. (it will never change that this just stinks when guys pull that stunt)

Well... It's not better, since repeat offenders can be given infractions as its against forum rules. One of the rules is read before posting.

Yes, it would be great to have. But still not necessary to make a new thread.
