How does a lighting spell not work on CC balloons?

I was raiding and I usually carry a lighting for troops and the guy had balloons in his castle so i lighting them and it had no affect? I hit right on them and it didnt work? It works on minions so why doesn't it work on balloons I dont know about drags cause ive never encountered one when I had a lighting spell

You didnt hit them... You cant click on the loons and expect to hit them, you have to click on the place that they're hovering above

I did they stopped to take out my barbs they were in a group then i dropped it

You probably got unlucky and the spell missed in between the loons, it has happened to me before vs other troops too.

It damages them but it cant destroy them.

What were the level of the loons? Cause if it's only one lit spell the HP is too high for them to die

They were lvl 6 and i dropped a level 5 lighting spell didnt even damage them

The balloons became invisible. Or they dodged the lightning spell
