(Make sure to read the bold) I didn't :( I was one of the impatient people who spent all of their gems to speed training and 50 minute waits. I did earn my 3rd builder from the 1250 trophy achievement and then I bought the other 2. I for one don't regret it since I no life the living ♥♥♥♥ out of this game....
anyways, did you get your 5 builders legit?

I did. I got the 5th builder around mid-th8. It's a pain in the ♥♥♥ to reach Masters.
EDIT: And yes, they were all through achievements and removing obstacles.
Gemming, rushing and earning them through achievements are still legit.
I got 4 builders all through achievements, working on 5.

Used purchased gems for the 4th builder.
Never bothered with 5th, as I usually only have 3 busy anyway....

I earned them all. I trophy pushed to masters as a maxed TH7 while waiting for my town hall to upgrade. That, coupled with 150 war stars and 25,000 troop donations was all I needed to get my 5th builder a couple weeks into TH8.
Now I am back up to nearly 1000 gems and nothing to spend them on (boosting doesn't interest me). They need to add a 6th builder for 3,000 gems just so I have motivation to push to champions. :)
