Ok, never noticed that. I don't get zapped enough to care to pay attention, even when I had 180k de waiting to upgrade both my king and queen at the same time.

It's what the games abouts,th7s can easily 3 star th6, th8s can easily 3 star th7s, th9s can easily 3 star th8s.... Get over it
If you make it harder for th9's to raid th8's, then th10 would have a godly feeling knowing no one besides other th10's would hit you
The max a th8 can lose from gold storage to a th 9 is 270k, 150k to a th10.
Any gold after approximately 3mil is safe (by way of the cap). Therefore, if you have 6mil gold, not one penny more is available to raiders than when you hit the loot cap.
Learning this was priceless, as I used to dump loot into gold into walls in order to appear less attractive to attackers, and would stop raiding once I had enough for the next upgrade, rather raid until I hit max storage.
It is similar with DE. Max DE lost is 1800 to a Th9 and 1000 to a th10. Once you hit the loot cap, the rest is protected (one of the reasons to max your dark storage).
So, once I learned this as a th8, I broke shields whenever I had time to do 2 raids. I could make up whatever I lost in two raids.
And if haven't maxed your gold storages, especially your third, do it soon. A th8 with just two max storages will have 135k in each one, vs 100k if he had three.
I recently hit a th9 with two max gold storages and two level one storages. I got 175k from each one, lol.
And get a good design that separates the storage. Veteran attackers can run a quick calculation that they can only get two storages and decide it is not worth using a strong army with heroes and spells.
There are many, many times I see a base I could easily smash, but hit next because the storage location prevent an easy loot.
