Do people max before they move up?

I rushed to TH7 before I started reading this forum and watching Youtube videos, so I am trying to avoid doing the same thing again. My question is do most people fully max out before they move up? I am pretty sure moving up without all my defenses maxed would be a bad idea but some of the other stuff I'm not sure. The 3 places I'm a little behind are.

1. My collectors, I get far more loot from farming then I do from my collectors so I've been neglecting them. Currently level 6/7, I wonder if having small value collectors is one of the reason I don't get raided that often.
2. My Barracks, I hate not getting my troops as fast so I have been just upgrading one at a time. I have one level 9 to cook dragons for war the rest are level 7.
3. Dark Elixir upgrades, TH7 has been really easy to farm gold and elixir but getting DE has been a grind. I have my my Barb King upgrading to lev 2, upgraded minions.

Without doing any collectors/barracks/DE upgrades I should be able to max out everything else in 2 weeks. Its probably another two weeks to do everything else. Thanks for the help

Most definantly max out at th7 Barb king is iffy because it's hard to get the DE at th7

I think it's ok not to max out collectors or DE upgrades (including barb)...wouldn't delay it for th8. But I wouldn't move on without maxing rax

​From an economics perspective it's always best to max out due to loot penalties.

Plus, maxed collectors will earn you long term loot you'll miss out on otherwise.

From a pride perspective, it's impressive to see people take the time. In my clan, it's part of our DNA to max out before moving on.

no one ever mentions that upgrading all your buildings increases your defense from a HP perspective. your collectors when max will not only produce much more resources, their HP will be higher giving your defenses more time to kill opposing forces that are trying to knock down those buildings.

It is perfectly fine not to max out collectors, and I'm just maxing mine out at the tail end of TH9. I raid much more than the collectors can bring me, and I'd much rather have those builder days on defenses or heroes.

Barracks are another that you will not need to max as long as you are not using those Tier 3 troops as often. However, It's a good idea to get them all up to Lvl 9 eventually as the bulk of the war attacks you will use at TH7/8 are really mass drags.

You'll want to max out the BK though, because there will be even more competing priorities for DE as you progress.

maxing everything is not necessary.
guess if you already have your defenses already max and bk at least level 3 you can really move up.

though maxing collectors before going up to th9 is really recommended given that lab time in th8 is longer than the build time of th8 buildings. doing collectors in th8 will give you extra time for your lab.

th1-6 you can pretty do an intelligent rush.. (barracks in respectable level, camps, and main defenses max)

Thanks for the help guys, I hadn't considered that the added hit points actually help with defense as well. I think I will wait and max out before moving to TH8.

Strictly incorrect, economics would make you consider how it becomes easier to gain loot later. Is it easier for a th8 to get 1 Million gold or a th5?

Not necessary, I do max my base, but my friend do not.
I see his deffense log and it's not bad at all, I mean not so different from me.

A premature base sometimes get hammered and raided 200k each but a Maxed base get hammered too (by a higher TH)

So go ahead and enjoy the offfense troops.
