King and Queen Altars count as defensive buildings?

Hey guys, here's an easy question. For troops that target defenses (like Giants, Balloons, Hogs, Golems), do the Barbarian King and Archer Queen "Altars" count as defensive buildings that they will target? Does it matter if the King/Queen is active or asleep or vanquished?
