Go youtube and search for IIB war. There are many strategy on 3 starring maxed th10. Awesome.
Good/Bad thing about hound is, its not a single strategy. You sort of need to cater your strategy to the base layout.
Many people think the hound as an air Golem which is very wrong. .The reason they are not Golem is because Golem tends to stay outside the wall, which means they will be shot by only 2/3 key defenses, buying you 20-40 seconds. Whereas hound flys right to the middle, and will be shot by 5-8 super nasty defense like AD, Tesla, Archers, Xbow, Inferno, buying you only 10 seconds.
What is also forgotten is when they die, they spawn 12 lv1 minions, which is equivalent of 24 housing space. Thus technically you get the hound for only half price
If you are a good balloonion warrior, you will know there are 3 types of placement for AD:
1) right on the outside-which is rare, and air attack favorites
2) behind another defense
3) Right in the center
For 1) you dont need any tank, for 3), you can pick off the outside defenses with 1/2 balloons without activating the AD. its the 2) which is most headache. Thus the Hound buys you the extra 10 seconds, for the Balloon to take out the outside defense, and go for the AD. And when they die, they give you extra 12 minions.
So based on this knowledge, you pick the site you want to attack and plan accordingly. Please keep in mind it will only last 10 secs. Thus the deployment strategy is very important. Most people think its a stupid troop because they drop the hound, super fast flyer goes right to the middle. Then they deploy balloon, before they finish deploying balloon the hound is dead already. And the minions, die in the next second since there is nothing to tank for them as well.
I'm still amazed every time someone says this. Look at their stats. At level 1, they do 10 DPS and have 5,700 HP. They clearly aren't meant to dish out damage. They are meant to take damage. They protect other troops, just like the Golem does, and they do a very good job at it.
I've been using them in war very successfully. Mine are currently level 1, and going to level 2 right now.
Using normal LavaLoonion (Balloonion with 2 Lava Hounds), I've been able to get 2 stars every time on mid TH9s and rushed TH10s with infernos.
Using Quatro-LavaLoonion (Balloonion with very few minions, and 4 Lava Hounds), I've been getting very close to 3 starring mid TH9s (I'm an early TH9).
I think it's really important to lure the CC, because a group of wizards will tear a Lava Hound apart in no time. Deployment speed is important as well. Lava Hounds don't last long against high level Air Defenses, so it's best to get the balloons in there as fast as possible.
I worry about the Archer Queen more than anything. If the minions/lava pups/splash damage from balloons doesn't kill her, she can mess up the attack.
So th9 4 hound strat...
Is it something like
4 hounds
20 loons
15 CC minions???
What spells and how do you deal with CC??
Yeah that's exactly what I've been doing. You can bring 3 rage & 1 lightning, 3 rage & 1 heal, or just 4 rage.
Use a couple loons to lure the CC, and a couple minions to get them bunched up in the corner. Then kill them with heroes, lightning, or the balloon trick where you let them shoot down a balloon and the balloon falls on them and kills them.
Here's some great Quatro-Lavaloonion 3 stars
