Stay TH8 until you would have idle builders. Try to get your king to 10....
Make those TH7s pay for your walls...

Stay at th8 and max everything possible. When you encounter the loot shortages at th9 you'll be glad you did.

Loots are far easier when you are a TH9, than in any other THs.
Stop worrying much with walls, you have all the time when you maxed out your defenses in TH9.
this is all about your play style, if you get over 225 attacks won a season or around that number i would suggest going to th9, there is so many more features to th9, plus the extra DE drill is super helpful, especially when they get to level 6. and then there is the archer queen... that is one of the best parts of the game! but if your activity is not that great i would stick it out at th8.
I'd recommend getting the BK to level 10 and getting your defenses maxed. For the BK, you will want to focus on the AQ when you get to 9, so that will make the BK take a backseat for awhile. And considering you have dark troops to do as well, you're making more work for yourself with farming for DE while farming for gold/elixir for the new expensive buildings and upgrades.
Walls are optional as long as you have them all at level 7. For me, walls are very important so I did get all 225 to skulls. That will make life much easier for me when I get to TH9 in the next 2 weeks. If they are important to you, do them. If not, level 7 seems to work just fine from what I've heard.
Good luck to you and have fun. I'll be starting my upgrade to TH9 in a few days and I'll have everything maxed except my lab. I refuse to let builders sit idle for another 6 weeks just for troops that I can easily catch up on next level since I'll be farming legos and lavas.
When i moved from th 8 to th 9 , I didn't even have full crystal walls. Now i have half level 9 walls and few level 10 walls. So dont worry about walls , upgrade your TH and you can do your walls later

What's the rush to go to TH9? You only need to go there when you have resources overflowing and builders sitting around doing nothing. Adding another week or two to your game time isn't going to affect you when you are going to be spending months at the other town halls. When you go to TH9 you want to be getting the new things, not worrying about things you should have done at previous town halls.
So stop trying to rush through a game that requires time. Upgrade your defenses, upgrade your walls, upgrade your BK, and keep your lab running.
