All Drag vs Balloonion in TH8. Who wins?

I am a mid TH 8 in a clan who wars a lot. Lately, I've been experiencing some difficulties 3 starring a base (sometimes 2) whenever I use an all drag with 3 rage spells. I'm looking for some alternative troops I could use so I figured why not use balloonions? My loons are level 5 and minions are level 3. Though I don't have much experience using this army comp.

I don't have pekkas yet or high level hogs (mine's level 1).

So... Would this be a good alternative? Is it capable of 3 starring a base? And what spells should I use?

Yeah, I have noticed that just after the heroes update dragons became the go to troop for three starring in wars. Now, I think unless you are hitting a TH 7, dragons are iffy. Ballooion can be very effective in war, but it's disadvantage is that the cc troops have to be drawn out and killed before attacking. And THAT itself seems to be more of a chore as it can take up to three lures to get them all out.... I think wizards in particular likes to sit around the castle and are soooo slow to come out.

As TH8 you only have lv 5 balloons though, they are significantly better at TH10.

You tried keeping mass dragon, but dropping one dragon for Minions? Use Minions to snipe any buildings at the start safely to prevent wasting dragon time. Don't be afraid to use your King at the start of a battle either if he can destroy some buildings to make a path to an air defence much shorter.

Because as TH8 I believe mass dragon is better then loons.

balloonion for town hall 9 or 10 with maxed balloons

You need to improve your dragon attack technique. They are the best for war attacks at th8.

I have lvl3 dragons and lvl5 rage and consistently 3 star my opponents (mostly maxed th8, some premie th9). Save the rage for the air def. Make sure you put the dragons down in a row but start at the outer edges, this will direct them to the central th. Also timing of rage spells is important you want them to work on a group of dragons not just one.

Ballonion is good for farming, but I have found success using this mass dragon army composition in clan wars:

• 2 hog riders for luring clan castle troops.
• 2 barbarians for luring clan castle troops.
• 7 wizards for killing clan castle troops.
• 8 dragons.
• Another dragon in clan castle.
• 2 healing spells.
• 1 rage spell.
