I don't know if this is normal or widely known (I did a search, honest), but the last time someone raided my village, my CC troop (dragon at the time) came out to defend and after the raider surrendered (after dropping and losing 15 archers), my dragon was still in the CC after the battle - I didn't lose it. Is this normal? I always thought that after a troop is deployed, you lose it after the battle.
That is only true when you attack a player. If your CC troops still live after defending, they will continue to defend until death.
On defense, the troops will go back into the castle unless they are killed (or if the golem is split).
Adding on to the previous comments, after surveying this for a bit, it seems that the health they lost after the defend, stays like that. So they don't gain their health back, but are at a lower health (if they got hurt).

Unless there was a ninja change that SC didn't post then CC troops return at full health.
I know this because I use a dragon in my TH7 as defense and it always comes back at full health after frying some noob barbarians.
I just deployed my CC dragon during a raid and I'm pretty sure it had full health when released. I know it had sustained some damage when it was protecting my village the last time I was attacked.

Can I add another observation about CC troops. I had like 15 archers and 2 giants in my castle and someone was going to give me a PEKKA, so I went over to the goblin map so i could empty the castle... Dropped the castle, music played, troops started coming out. I go back to get the pekka, throw up the request and WTH, 1 archer and 2 giants were still in the castle..
