I don't know if this is normal or widely known (I did a search, honest), but the last time someone raided my village, my CC troop (dragon at the time) came out to defend and after the raider surrendered (after dropping and losing 15 archers), my dragon was still in the CC after the battle - I didn't lose it. Is this normal? I always thought that after a troop is deployed, you lose it after the battle.
That is only true when you attack a player. If your CC troops still live after defending, they will continue to defend until death.
On defense, the troops will go back into the castle unless they are killed (or if the golem is split).
Adding on to the previous comments, after surveying this for a bit, it seems that the health they lost after the defend, stays like that. So they don't gain their health back, but are at a lower health (if they got hurt).
