The Pros and Cons of a Near Max TH 8

I'm a TH 8 with max structures, traps, skull walls and elixer upgrades. My BK is 8 and my DE upgrades is Minion 4 and Hogs 3. I will be a TH 9 by next week and here are my thoughts on my topic.

CONS: Mostly TH 9s attack me and at level 84 it seems like there is no loot penalty. When I have 1.8m of gold or elix TH 9s can raid approx 175k.

PROS: Intimidation factor from same or lower TH. My traps and def can protect me from most attacks since Tesla 6 and Skull trap 2 messes with farming attacks using mass giants or bam. Thanks to what I read in the forums, any TH 9 that raids me I get even using giwipe or gowipe and steal em silly. Pekka 3 is awesome!

When I build out my second account, I won't max out th8 like I did with my primacy account. The single biggest tool when farming DE is the archer queen. I started out th8 with all my DE upgrades after farming troops. I stayed in TH 8 too long and it starts to drag with minimal benefits.

Once in TH9 the loot penalty isn't e even bad... I didn't notice a difference. All the while it is close to impossible to protect loot. You are right in that the penalty from th9 bases is not high when raiding th8 bases.

archer queens helps a lot while barching th8s

The cons faaaar exceed the pros. I loathed every minute of TH8.

Thats why I'm heading to TH 9. Raiding DE is difficult. With a second DE pump and AQ, I should be rolling in DE pretty quick.

I maxed everything I could for 2 reasons:

1. To make my life upgrade wise easier in TH 9
2. Planning on going dragloonion ASAP so I maxed my loon, drag and minion.

Raiding in TH 8 was no problem since I bam regularly so gold/elix upgrades was relatively painless. DE is another story. Excited to get my 2nd royal next week.

I was a max th8. Bk10 vslk2 pekka 3. Blah. Blah blah

The advantage for me has been I don't have to waste any resources on th8 troops walls or defense. I will have AQ5 before my first troops hatch from lab

AQ is great for raiding de but she also loves to drink it

I agree. When you're an early TH 9 busy upgrading campsites, TH 8 max troops and def help alot. I should have AQ 5 before I get my loon 6.

Pros: Your base looks cool, and it's hard for Town Hall 8s and below to attack you.

Cons: You're still easy prey for Town Hall 9s with level 6 troops and an Archer Queen. Also, the war matchmaking will equate your base with many slightly underdeveloped Town Hall 9s. This happened to my clan when the highest people we had were maxed Town Hall 8s. It became a huge problem.

TH 9s can still rob you blind but you can rob them back since you have high levrl troops. You don't fear TH 9s and you actually want them to attack so you can revenge em with a gowipe or giwipe to raid em blind.

I agree with the match making in wars. I usually have the task of going after new to mid TH 9s. The most I can get is 2 stars. Not the best results but workable.

Finally became a TH 9 and the first things I built were 2 X Bows and my AQ. I followed that by buying all traps and upgraded all new walls to 4. Plus got myself a brand new drill, AT and Tesla.

Nearly maxing yourself does have its benefits.

As stated in the beginning of the thread, the AQ is the best DE farming tool. I had maxxed out my th8 with the exeption of De and when i came to th9, the DE just seemed to flow into my base. If you are staying at a th8 trying to max out de as your elixer and gold upgrades are going, then thats a waste of time because the DE is so much easier at th9.

Been debating this ever since going to TH8, but decided to plug away and max it out. While I agree DE farming would be much easier with the AQ I'm not finding it too difficult raiding TH7 DE storages with a simple barch army. It's a pain, but I want to go into TH9 with only TH9 upgrades to do.

I love when noobs go to TH9 early just for the queen... easy raid for me.

I maxed TH8, that way when i got to TH9, all I had to do was make my xbows, queen and new buildings. So much better :)

3 Weeks into TH9 and my queen is at lvl 5, i have 25 lego walls and my xbows will soon be level 3.


Those who rush will pay the price. Play the game however makes you happy, but please heed my warning!

Gowipe is still pretty weak, even as a maxed hall 8....so im not sure how you are "robbing them back" unless it's on a weak th9 with weak walls. Lvl 2 golems have the durability of pebbles and you also lack another spell, the AQ, and more camp space for gowipe to really be all that effective as a hall 8. 2-3 lvl 3 pekkas alone aren't enough to smash a 9.

Also, assuming that the th9 hit you for 175k or better each, by the time you train up a Wipe the cost/benefit is slim (considering they hit you for over 300k, then you spend another 200k+ training up the gowipe, puts you in the hole 500k before you even maybe get 300k back from the 9 if you are lucky).

So yeah, other than the personal satisfaction of a revenge, you pretty much gain nothing...and tbh you are probably better off with using lvl 4 hogs on a revenge over wipe.

Anyway grats on 9. Gowipe and especially gowiwi are much more effective and th9 was quite abit of fun as well. You can finally start making some good army comps.

I would just completely Max it because loot will just keep getting harder to get with the loot penalty when you upgrade your th

I could raid up to a near max TH 9 with max def who had up to lego walls. I would attack them if they had approx 175k+ gold and 2k DE. I didn't care about elix since my goal upon hitting 9 was 2 X Bows and AQ. My army comp used was the following:

4 Giants
12 WB
2 Pekkas
1 Golem
19 Wizards
3 Heal
CC had Dragon with 5 archers

Everything using elix was maxed and depending on deployment, easy 2 stars and gutted core. When I reached TH 9 I had max gold storages and 50k DE with having approx 150k on each gold collector.

Besides the pleasure of getting even and letting them know that a TH 8 beat them, I earn back my DE. Was expensive and long to train? Yeap but worth it because I got my new royal and X Bows to prove it.

well the disadvantage of having a max th8 would be the difference in lab time and build time.. which can be recovered in th9.
the lab time in th9 is shorter compared to the build time
while in th8 lab time is longer compared to the build time.

His base design was flawed then, or he was one of those idiots who puts all their storages in the core. No way a maxed defensive th9 with full legos and a full Cc gets gutted with that army comp. When I was a max th9 even a th10 with lvl 25+ royals and a max Gowipe could barely get over 2 stars and over 60%, let alone breach the majority of my storages. Then again I had lvl 30 heroes plus lavas, but I still don't see an 8 smashing a near max 9 that badly. Your troops just aren't strong enough.

Anyway you apparently did so more power to you. Though honestly if I was the 9 I'd probably still laugh knowing you lost 500k+ in the process of me raiding you plus the cost of your revenge to get back maybe 1/3rd if you were lucky.

You had to go full out while a th9 can pretty much 100% any th8 with just a basic farming max Giant and a Barch core alone. 175k and 2k de is nothing when you consistantly pull 200k gold/raid and 2 max lvl drills @4800 de/day negates that 2k loss. He isn't hurting any from that raid nor is lamenting your revenge Im sure.

I suppose the good news now is you get to do it too. Enjoy that juicy loot from those th8's trying to max and save for th9.

TBH I did fail a few times initially and attacking a TH 9 with max walls taught me the lesson of futility. I did get better at gowope though and I'm sure that even if I didn't put a dent to his resources, he/she will think twice about hitting a max TH 8. Just waiting for my bows to finish by next week while save up on maxing campsites.

For cups of course and its cool to have an airforce that can get you 3 stars :D The dragon just makes the loonian a bit more versatle versus cc troops and high level AD plus teslas.

After reaching TH 9, i finally found out why alot of new TH 9 complain that loot is hard to find. Loot is there but you would need to spend more elixer to get it and you need elix for your upgrades. Another issue for new 9s is that other stronger 9s can raid them with ease and they can't raid TH 7s because of the penalty.

So how can you counter this? Simple really.

1. Max your TH 8 base before jumping to 9 so you won't get owned by other 9s and max 8s
2. Max your TH 8 farming troops so you can use barch to raid and get high ROI for elix until you can build your level 6 troops during your early 9 stage

Yeap. Maxing my base and elix troops was indeed a good decision.

As a max th8 going to th9 is it faster to max th9 then? Or is it just as fast with the basics done and rush to th9? Seems that you would be easy prey for those th8 you think are dumb for maxing?

me, i am in no rush to become a feeding trough for hungry th10's.

I turned 9 last week and I can safely say IMHO that you should max all structures, farming troops and get your BK around 5 or more.

That way, with the additional weak walls and structures you wont be a target for 8, 9 and 10. When I was still TH 8, I would always attack premmie 9s who had no x bows, AQ and had only violet walls or lower since it meant that they didn't have the troop strength for a strong revenge.

Don't rush to 9 unless you want to be "food" for everyone that sees your village.
