New Defensive Structure: "The Illusion"
So I had an idea for a new defensive structure and tweeted Chief Pat about it a few days ago. He thought it was an interesting idea so I thought I would post it here to get some feedback from you guys - see if we can get some traction behind the idea. Maybe Chief Pat could even pitch it to SC one day. :)
Defensive Structure: "The Illusion"
Available at TH7
Cost: $1,500,000
Time to Build: 4 days
Hit Points: 1 (yes, 1)
Description: "The Illusion" is a special form of trap that copies another structure on the map. You can change the look of "The Illusion" any time by picking it up and putting it back down. It adds an element of strategy to the game by forcing individuals to game-plan around a structure that does not actually exist. If you choose to copy a defensive structure it does not function, it merely stands in place. If you choose to copy a storage (such as gold or DE), it will look like it is full/empty just like your other storage(s) but will have nothing in them in actuality.
For example, at TH7 you could choose for "The Illusion" to be another Air Defense for your war base. You set up your base in a perfect triangle. Individuals that scout your base now need to figure out which structure is the illusion and which ones are real.
Another example, at TH8 you can choose for "The Illusion" to be another DE Storage for your farming base. You could put the DE at opposing ends of a map but deep enough that someone would have to commit troops to get at either.
Modifications from Forum Members
1. IVWizDumb: Instead of 1 HP, "disappears" when troops enter a specified range. More in line with "illusion" theme and would balance the gameplay dynamic where giants attack a wall for 5-7 seconds only to attack a fake defensive structure.
Structures "The Illusion" Cannot Copy
- Hidden Structures (e.g., Tesla, Spring Traps, Bombs)
Interesting Synergies / New Dynamics it Brings
- Could design interesting bases like one with 2 TH's or one with 2 DE storages. How do you begin to attack the base? If you pick the wrong side do you have enough to recover?
- You could have "2" clan castles. For individuals that bring only 1-2 hogs to lure, what if they pick the wrong one?
- The lightning spell may see more play as a 2x spell in champions league (most only bring 1) because of the complexity. But which spell would get dropped to make room? How would attack strategies be forced to adjust?
- More strategy talked about during prep day (especially for TH7 / TH8 mass drag players who likely will have to deal with an "extra" AD.
I'll add more later. What do you guys think?
