I'm a relatively new TH8 and I have 4 builders and 1.4K gems, never bought, and will never buy gems. I can keep all 4 busy, but I'm not sure about if I can keep a 5th busy. I wouldn't care if it was cheaper, but 2K gems from obstacles take long to get. Do you recommend me to save for 5th builder or to use those gems? (i'd use them only for boosting, better use of gems IMO).
Builders are the most crucial part of the game. Get to crystal league for an additional 500 gems. Then remove obstacles for the last 100.
If you can Keep your builders busy depends on how much you are farming. Until th7 you can upgrade your base without attacking too much, but th8 is the Point where you really Need to stark working. Many Players dont max out defenses for th8, because it can not be done with collecting mines any more.
On the other side if you are a good farmer, you will have no Problems keeping even 5 builders busy at th9.
If you can't keep five builders busy don't get a fifth one. Instead use your gems for boosting barracks when you have a spare two hours. :)
You could keep the 4 busy, but not sure about the fifth?

I used to think that getting the 5th builder was crucial, but now, eh, not so much. Usually 3 builders are busy and the 4th is for emergencies such as dumping loot into walls to keep my storage levels low. Like you, I haven't bought any gems yet, but am able to keep my gem count hovering around 800-900 for emergency boosting and such. At the moment, none of my builders are doing anything other than sleeping and taking up space. They're probably chasing the village maidens around when I'm not looking. I use one now and then to do wall upgrades and when I have enough DE to upgrade a royal. Loot is not as available as it used to be, so keeping all of them busy is pretty hard to do these days. More so if you have a village that is near maxed with not much left to upgrade.

If you only just keep 4 busy at the moment, why get the builder --- you are only going to find it harder with the increased costs and build times the higher you go........
Personaly, by the time i got enough gems for the 5th builder, I realised I was too "casual" to need it, so I just kept them for boosting barracks/sf........
(on the other hand - if you get the builder, you will always have it, just in case you do ever need him)

Get the 5th builder. Period. It's a permanent addition to your base. All the other stuff is temporary. I'm a late th9 and have kept all 5 builders busy since I got him. Not that hard
It depends how often you farm and if you have millions in resources you cant spend due to builder shortage. Personally 4 is fine for me, based on how often I play. Someone who plays half the day may want 5.
It is a permanent purchase you cant go wrong with it, upgrades are only going to get longer and if you cant keep him busy just heve him to dump extra loot into walls and therefore you wont be sitting on maxed stograges with no builders for 3 days.
Depends how casual you are IMO. I only have 4 builders and will never get 5. If you are anything like me if they are ever all busy I don't bother raiding and just let my collectors work.
I am a VERY casual player though. Sitting around 2000 cups at mid TH9 and I have all the patience in the world for this game so it doesn't matter how long it takes for me.
It depends how often you farm. If you get over 50 attacks a season then yes buy the fifth builder. If you think that 50 attacks is ridiculous then don't even think about getting a fifth you'll probably be spending months farming walls anyways.
about how much do you farm a day? or what's your gg? if it were me I'd definitely get the 5th, mine has made a huge difference

Honestly I wouldn't. 4 Is plenty and depending on how much you play it would be difficult keeping all 5 busy seeing as how the upgrade cost for you will rise dramatically as you approach TH9. I would use those gems for boosting sessions since everything will eventually cost an arm and a leg.
I would say get the 5th builder, but don't buy gems with money. You can town hall snipe all the way to masters for free gems. If you have already done that and still need more gems you can jump around clans donating troops or work on stars in clan wars (those achievements give pretty decent amounts of gems).

But, if you only play when you have a builder free, and you don't really care about the game, then it's up to you. I personally am raiding everyday regardless of if i have a builder ready.
Save up for the 5th builder. Its as simple as that. Then you can use your gems for boosts or whatever but i strongly recommend saving for it.
I think that if you have played the game for more than a few months and play at least every other day, I would advise everyone to get a 5th builder. It helps so much. It's admirable that you don't buy gems either, btw :cool:

With current crappy loot availability,you won't be able to keep them busy
I am wall grinder that's why i bought my fifth builder. (I never spent a single dime in this game, all came from achievements and obstacles). And i can still boost my racks since obstacle didnt stop respawning when i bought my extra hut. 😁Quote:

but having one spare for walls... will make 4 for defense/building.. which will fastened your progress..
AND
for the % of the added building on your map.... you may want it if you have a pushing base (that builder hut can make that difference with that 1%)
At TH8 4 is a good number. I have 1 that is always upgrading AD or tesla, 1 that is always up grading a mortar or wizard tower, and 1 upgrading something non-defense building. I just got my 4th and now I can upgrade walls whenever I want, I keep him open. I think the question is going forward, getting to TH 9 and TH 10, with the amount of time it takes to upgrade, does having a 5th make since. I think it would.
Agreed, all play style/time. But it seems most people have idle builders at the end of th9 and th10 where walls/heroes are incomplete. So I stayed with 4 builders - it took longer to max th9, but I could do some walls while I was building rather than saving them all for the end. I have about 3300 gems waiting for one big push into Champs when I'm close to maxed and close to quitting.
I think 5 builders is only for the most hard-core of farmers or gemmers...
I think you should go for the 5th builder.
This is without a doubt the most logical reply in this thread. Those saying that the expense of upgrades should discourage you from getting a 5th builder miss the issue that those expensive upgrades also take significantly longer as well (x-bow level 3, at a week or more wait time if I recall correctly, is a good example that a TH9 will encounter; getting your mortars going from max TH8 to the next level is another (5 days if memory serves)).Quote:

Obviously the earlier you can get the 5th builder the better but as a mid lvl TH10, it's hard to keep 4 busy so it's not important to me now. But at an early TH8 like you, it would make a big difference! I would get it if I was in your position
even if you can only keep 4 builders busy, its nice to have the 5th one so you can dump your resources into your walls.
Buy it. $5 is worth a cheeseburger, fries, and a large coke from McDonald's that'll hold you over for 4 hours. Spending $5 on coc will be healthier and benefit you the rest of the time you plan on playing the game. If you make $8 average minimum wage at 40 hours a week, that is $320/week. $5 out of $320 is less than 2% of that weeks pay check, or chump change. Unless you are saving every extra penny you make and cutting down your monthly budget to take that trip to Tahiti later on this year, forget about the pride.
I'd say the number is even higher. I've been making closer to 75-100 attacks a season for over a year with BArch and BAM (playing for almost 2 years), and I'm happy with 4 builders. I carefully time when they end, dump extra loot into walls before starting a build, and very occasionally leave a builder free for walls. I never have a free builder for lack of loot in 2 years, but at the end of th9 I had 4 builders idle while I was grinding some walls and heroes. And in about two months I'm going to have 4 idle builders with max defenses while still grinding walls and heroes.Quote:

For the situation of many, I think 5 builders = defenses done faster, and a longer hero-only, wall-only grind, and that is not fun.
Like OP, I'm not planning to buy any. I'm saving the 2000 gems for a final push when I'm close to maxed to see how high I can get. I'm at about 3300 gems right now, with the gems from Champs still on the horizon. That will give me over 5000 gems to boost in a few months. My goal is to get to some kind of clouds situation (is that 3600? 3800?) and then stop :)

Why? TH9 upgrades takes a long time. Good to have a spare builder to do walls as and when yr resources accumulates. U can do lvl9 walls with elixirs so the extra free not doing anything builder is useful as such.
I have not read anything else in between yr 1st post and here, but would recommend u get as much achievements as possible.
I managed to get the 5th builder just last month. I m closing in on a maxed TH8. Troops n walls included. But I must mentioned I got to master at TH7 maxed for the extra gems.
I have not spent a penny/cent on this base so far.
If you can't keep 4 a majority of the time now, then don't get the fifth builder.
Use your gems on something else, finish that one last lab upgrade, but statues decorations that cost gems.
Why:Because if you can't keep four builders busy now, you'll never need the fifth builder more than likley, because you won't be able to keep it Busy, and if you can't keep it busy; whats the point in buying it? There is none.
If you always keep your 4 builders busy;Then get the fifth.
Why:You'll be thankful you have it. You'll constantly be using it. And your upgrades and base gets done faster.
So the answer is it depends if you can keep your builders busy.
Some people have five builders and it isn't enough.
Some people only have two and it is more than enough.
