I just upgraded to th9 recently and I'm having a lot of trouble saving up the 3m gold for each x-bow. Would it be advisable to just save no matter what, or would it be better to upgrade all my new defences and get a better over all defence? I'm also having the same problem with getting the 2.5m for the lab upgrade.
I upgraded both to max before I worked on any other gold upgrades. That way you don't build an xbow based base and compromise it every time you upgraded one of them.
The best thing to do at this point if you can't hold or can't find loot is to drop cups to a range you can successfully defend most attacks and find easy bases to raid. Barch in blocks of a couple hours at a time if possible so you are maximizing your 'income' versus losing it when you go offline. Don't use expensive armies to farm, don't use spells. This will get you up to the 5m mark quickly and also solve your lab dilemma.
What I did was save up before I finished upgrading the th, and started both right away..That said, earn more than your losing per session, and ride the shields. I would save up for them(thats just me) , but as they arent great until lvl2 anyway...maybe just get the other stuff until you can more comfortably save up for the xbow. Maybe get the xbow on your weekend when you can(should be able to) easily farm each in a day.
Use war loot strategically as well would be a good tip.
Pick a time when you have two hours to spare and notice that loot is average or better in gold 1. Boost your barracks for 40 gems and barch non-stop. You should be able to clear 3 million of each and get a bit of de as a bonus.
Also...I would highly recommend you concentrate more on camps/lab/sf rather than xbow...getting those upgraded first will make a huge difference...

I understand your frustration and I believe we belong to a group who cant farm very well and always find our defences cannot protect the resources for the major upgrade.Quote:

5. When you are in the final bits of resources needed to upgrade, boosting your barrack is one good choice. I didnt do so until recently, as I was saving it for 5th hut. So far I tried once, and I was trying to farm enough DE to get the AQ, and I got it.
Now I am saving my gems for the next major upgrade.
6. Lab upgrade - my question to you is, do you think you can farm 4.5 or 6 million elixir for your troop upgrade? I upgraded it and ever since it was completed, it was left idle. I was unable to do and research as I cant farm enough elixir for it. So, I regretted spending my elixir on it so early. If I can redo again, I will opt to upgrade army camp first, giving me more troops to raid. Alternatively, you may consider spell factory before lab.
Since the update that allows elixir to use on walls, farming it is very difficult. Last time was so plentiful and you easily accumulate to millions. Now I find that it is more difficult to farm then gold.
It would be best to have max storages when your TH finishes upgrading to TH9, and with free builders. 6mil gold for 2 xbows, 40k DE for the Archer Queen (instant build), Upgrade Lab, build the 2nd DE Drill.
Those were my top priority...
