Value for money is obviously the most, so chest of gems.
But if you are asking relating to how many you will need it depends what you are planning on using them for.
Dont buy a color change of some of your devices pixels with real life money!

Depends on your goals and how much money you have.
Most expensive one gives the lowest cost per gem, but if you are feeling a bit down on the game, or you don't have loads of cash this probably isn't the best thing to do.

The cost savings per gem between a pile and chest is minimal.
Pile = $.00998 per gem
Chest = $.00714 per gem
Basically, you do save a little but they are just getting that much more money from you if you do buy a chest.
If got the money and going to playing for a bit. the bigger package you buy the cheaper each gem cost.
If you used well they help you enjoy the game a lot more by helping you farm more hour. (Boosting)
Some people use for time. Can be a good idea if you got full storages and no free builder.
Most people consider boosting (barracks/Spells) as the best use of them, once you got all the builders.
However, if you buy 14000 gems, you save $39.73 USD by buying 1 chest instead of 28 piles.Quote:

No more than $25 over the life span of your village. You wouldn't pay more for such a simple game in one shot so, why spend more gemming? Unless you have money to burn, it just not worth it. When the game gets too boring to play without gemming, simply find another game.
Why no poll option for 0 gems? I gave up on buying gems when the loot died.
