My Th8 Farming Problem

I just upgraded to town hall 8 last week, and I have constantly been getting 3 starred by more advanced th8 and 9s and losing over 300k per resource per battle. I am currently in silver 2. I have barely any skill attacking (in th7 i went for mainly inactive bases.) Is there a good place where I can farm and not get constantly raided? I cant stay in silver 2 anymore because of the loot penalty. I am never finding good loot anymore
Also, i dont really care about dark elixir

Besides the new th 8 stuff, everything is maxed for th7 except for about 20 lvl 6 walls, one barrack, some collectors, and my level 2 barbarian king

TH8 is the first town hall where you will experience the "early town hall woes". Before that, the jump between a max'd base and a new base are pretty slim. From here on out, expect your early days at a new town hall level (at 8, 9 and 10) to be...unpleasant. Here are some key tips to help you out:

#1: Always always always enter the new Town Hall Level with maxed (or close to maxed, like 95%) storages. This will let you instantly start some of the key upgrades

#2: Prioritize your Lab, and basic farming troop upgrades. This is absolutely #1. If you're having a super difficult time and didn't save enough elixer to do this immediately, consider gemming it.

#3: Dump your gold. Even if it might mean sleeping builders, early on, you absolutely don't want to have a large amount of Gold + Elixer. If you have a lot of Elixer, you might get skipped by well developed TH8s and TH9s, as they don't need elixer much. If you have a ton of gold, literally everyone that runs across your base will want to hit it. The best defense is to simply not pay for the person's nexting costs.

#4: Townhall outside. Pray for free shields over night, and during work/school.

#5: Try to hover in ranges that the TH below you farms in. If Silver 2 is getting you beat up by TH8s, try dropping to Silver 3 until you have your farming troops done. At TH8, once I had my farming troops ready, I mostly hung out in S1 to G2. You might want to avoid that until your lab is well on its way.

#6: Speaking of, try to smash the THs one level below yours. They become almost free 3 stars once you have farming troops upgraded.

#7: Tough it out. TH8 in particular is kind of rough, as you don't gain any additional army camps, you don't get level 6 giants, and lv5 barbs are only ok. On the bright side, TH9 level 6 archers are only meh, so once you get level 5 archers, your offensive farming DPS is actually pretty close to theirs. That's why once you have level 5 BARCH, you're actually in a pretty solid place as far as what kinds of bases you can farm.


Know that once you get your basic elixer stuff out of the way, TH8 is pretty fun. TH7s are pretty rich, easy to take down, and they really can't touch you. Sure, there's basically nothing you can do against a TH9 (I can 3 star barch a lot of weaker TH8s, and TH9 Giant+Healer can basically 3 star any TH8), but when you're sitting on a lot of resources, try to raid in sessions to finish off upgrade amounts.

Final tip: Try to only ever have a lot of 1 resource at a time. Try your best to space out gold / elixer / DE upgrades so that at any given time, only 1 is high, and the other 2 are as low as you can manage. This reduces your appeal to people higher level than you.

-when i got all my 3 mortars (now 4) to level 6, the raids decreased quite a bit. I upgraded my 3 mortars at the same time, as soon as i reached TH8.
-raid in session and keep your storage low
-watch youtube battles and learn how to attack
-find a good farming base. I use a modified version of the Three doors by Avernicus.

Thank you! Right now I'm focusing on upgrading the new buildings (mortar, wizard tower, air defense, archer tower, and storages) and I'm trying to get a level 10 barrack (i would've gotten it a few days ago if i wasn't raided) after that I was planning to get the lab, then as you said, lvl 5 barbs and archers.

Very good tips! Exactly what i would have wrote.
One thing though: nowadays, elixir is as important as gold since the update allowing to dump elixir into walls. Personally, I mostly hunt for elixir while gold is just pilling up naturally.

I would take the time to learn how to attack. That is the biggest problem with looking for easy bases to raid, you handicap yourself attack wise. That way you are not spending so much time looking for easy bases to hit and you can hit your upgrade amount quicker. That will keep you for having to go offline with so much loot on hand. Also take a look at your base design and see if there are any changes you can make that may stop some of the bleeding. 300K per resources is a lot. Did you maxed Th7 before the move to Th8? Just curious.

Get that lab up ASAP (before lvl 10 barracks) you always want your lab busy as it will take longer to max out then all your buildings at th10. Plus higher level troops will benefit you more then PEKKA.

Yeah. Adjust that. Forget defenses, forget storages, forget barracks (especially forget this because it costs Elixer). Get Level 5 Barb and Archer ASAP. They are more important, and more valuable, than any other single upgrade or defense that you could do.

True - elixer has much more value now than it did a few months ago. However, if you limit your "large" resource being saved to 1 type, you can definitely eliminate a good portion of the people raiding you. Especially if you're down in Silver 2 or 3.

At Crystal 3, where I hang out (and a lot of other early-mid TH9s hang out):
35k loot bonus = 46 nexts covered. So I have a lot of lee way to be picky about my bases and still turn a profit.

Down in Silver 2/3: That loot bonus is negligible, so any one that pressed next more than 20-30 times will skip you if you show 30-40k available loot.

In general, I find, if you limit your gold to a small amount, you generally get sniped, and ocassionally will get a big-ish attack that will 50-60% your base and take 50% of your resources.

If you limit your elixer to a small amount, but have a ton of gold, you generally get sniped, and will ocassionally have a massive attack that takes all your gold, using some ridiculously expensive army.

If you limit both, but have a lot of DE, you get sniped, zapped, and 50%'d for your DE storage with a variety of armies (BAM, Giant+Healer, Big Armies, cheap armies, whatever).

If you have a lot of all 3 resources....your base is going to get smashed. It's only a matter of time.
