I think boosting barracks will save u more if u train big troops , but if u train small troops or fast troops , u will waste times when u looking for a match n attacking time , if u spent 3mn mean u lose 3x4= 12mn

I'd like to add something to the discussion. I've used gems to boost barracks twice in my CoC-carreer for an intensive 45 minutes of raiding. I found a couple of things:
1) If you use tier 1 groups, boosting 4 barracks is actually not efficient. Collector hunting usually costs only between 20-80% of your army. Building a full Barch army (TH9) with boosted barracks takes 5 minutes. Build finishing will actually exceed your ability to find a target and effectivly use your troops on more than a few occasions, thus wasting gemmed time. This effect is even more true if you use BAM.
2) Since cooking troops is inherent to boosting barracks you get the best effect with lvl9+ barracks, preferrably lvl10 because of their larger building queue. Otherwise you again waste gemmed time if your search + raid time exceeds build time.
Specifically because of the first reason I think it's more gem-efficient to boost only 2 barracks. Half the gems, same effect if you are an efficient barch/bam-farmer.
