The ones in the playing field are very useful, I agree - I used to build bases around rocks and trees. I tend to take all mine down in the dark green area on the outside of the playing area you can't build on though - if you remove 3 a day, you will be getting maximum chances at a x-mas tree though 8-)

Ugh I hate this sight especially when a large majority of people don't have a single tree. If it helps I three starred the tree hogger.

Surely the correct time to chop down the Xmas tree would be on 12th night.. i.e the 6th January 2013?

This is traditionally the day one takes decorations down, and inspired the carol 12 days of christmas.

if u log on on Christmas day and it downloads content before loading the game then I would say that it just downloaded the new reward for cutting down the tree.
Just a guess... I have no idea but that's what I think.

Obstacle Spawn Rate?

Does anyone know what causes an obstacle to be spawned? Is it just timed? (i.e. one every 12 hours). And more importantly, can we can increase this rate by gaining XP points or leveling up?

According to the wiki page here: http://clashofclans.wikia.com/wiki/Obstacles

The Xmas tree has a 2% chance of spawning. Trees re-spawn every 8 hours. So, for me (I still haven't received one) I cut down 3 trees a day and let 3 respawn, hoping for that 2% chance.

Not saying the wiki is right or wrong, but it is usually pretty close.

Thanks for answering Twister. I'm not sure if the wiki is 100% correct though. I tidied up my village a few days ago hoping for the x-mas tree. But only two new obstacles had spawned in 24 hours. Hence, I was wondering if there was a way to "increase" this obstacle spawn rate.

It's information from the game's data files. It may or may not be right, though. Sometimes the data in the files doesn't match what is actually the case in game.

Hey dahimi, I'm definitely not saying I'm right either; just telling you my experience. This is exactly why I was asking if there was a way to increase/decrease the spawn rate. I don't have a jailbroken device so I can't look up my own rate. Is it possible that different TH levels might change this value? I'm sure there are other variables that come into play. But I appreciate your insight and the info. And good job on the wiki pages.

Anything is possible. I suspect that the spawn rate is fairly constant though.

If it's any consolation, there's about 25 days left until Christmas. Assuming the respawn rate is 1 every 8 hours and the tree has a 2% chance of popping up, you have a 78% chance of getting 1 or more trees.

Of course assuming the same thing, you have a 49% chance to have already received at least one.

I don't know the exact answer, but I believe the spawn opportunity is every 8 hours, then you have a 20/10/2 % chance of the different types of trees spawning in that window. I don't think it's guaranteed that you get any tree each spawn cycle. I usually only get 2 a day as well, sometimes 1, sometimes 3 from what I can tell, but I haven't charted them.
