Drags are dumb. You either absolutely destroy the base. Or you're watching it get shot down while it whales away on a storage. (Also a good way to slow them down, put a max storage near the AD.)
However, when used properly, and with a bit of luck, they can 3 star max th8s.
So I guess some cleaver base design, an a lot of luck might keep a 3 star at bay. Excellent. At this point I consider anything below a 3 star successful against a dragon attacker.
I'm afraid th7 really doesn't stand a chance against mass dragons. The real bad news for you is that even a fully developed th8 doesn't stand a chance against lv3 mass dragon attack from a capable player. 9/10 of my mass dragon attacks on th8 bases are 3 stars when I was a th8 and I saw any 2 stars attack as failure, regardless enemy base. It is until th9 the you can really stop having this dragon nightmare.
Just design your base to have centralized AD - hope the enemy is bad.
As TH7 I did stop a few lvl 2 dragon attacks. Realistically all you need is 1 ad not being destroyed and raking dragons the whole fight to win.
Another strategy is to space your buildings out as much as possible and hope they run out of time trying to destroy your base. Put TH and two AD right in the middle with every wall enclosing them. (This is actually the best defense a TH 7 can put up hoping to not get 3 stared by anything really.
If the attacker knows what they are doing and doesn't just drop them all in one spot, there is nothing you can do as a th7. Sorry. In my opinion they made th7 attack too strong. TH7 should only have 180 housing.
I guess it depends on your definition of defend. At th8 with 3 lv 5+ air defenses you can almost always prevent a 3 star. But its not til th9 that you can keep them below 50%Quote:

Its impossible to defend as a TH 7, and as a TH 8, you can defend against bad attackers. Faster more than 30 wars as a TH 8 attacking other TH 8 I can tell you for sure that I can 3 stars ANY TH 8 with dragons. A good attacker can ALWAYS 3 stars a th 8 as a th 8... its just harder on some bases.
