I generally don't endorse gemming, but yes, if you're going to gem anything I'd gem your offense. If BAM isn't working well, try Giant/wb/barb/arch. If that doesn't work, Giant/Healer/damage class has a lower skill cap yet.
Currently I am attacking with 15 giants 2 healer 9 wbs 89 archers and 3 lightning spells and castle troops I am around 1650 trophies now.Quote:

Guys i mean its concidered premature if u have lvl 7 walls at th 9 but basically thats not "premature"
They even put a warning about the loot penalty under the description whenever you upgrade your town hall. To upgrade to town hall 9 it says " Note: Upgrading will reduce you loot from opponents with town hall level 8 and below".
If you have been playing long enough to get to lvl9 town hall, you should have been aware of all this.Quote:

This reply misses the point of the post completely. The article doesn't discourage those from buying gems, it helps guide the best use of them to maximize game play experience. The mistake wasn't spending money, it was what they spent it on. The title of the post is "What to do about a premature TH?". The OP(original poster) is trying to help those that have mistakenly gone the premature TH route and now regret it. Many posts and comments in this forum mention how that route has ruined the game play experience for them and many others have quit the game because of this.Quote:

Th 9 isnt that bad. you still get 200 000 and out of luck 300 000 of each resource if your in the 1400 trophy range.

To get resources upgrade your troops and upgrade army camps. These are the 2 things that you need to start by
Don't try to use bam with minions lvl 1 because they are too weak :(
When I use BAM I usually would use 80 archers 30 minions and 70 barbarians
Many people just fill up 2 barracks with barbarians, the other 2 with archers and both of the dark barracks with minions, that's a fast way! ;)

It takes a lot of patience. I can't say I know what you're going through, but I wasn't level 25 when I got town hall 7, but now I'm level 51 and close to maxing th 7 because of a few things:Quote:

4) Max your town hall 9 defenses before upgrading again. Don't worry about getting all level 10 walls, as no mere mortal can do this without spending gems on them. You may feel overwhelmed now, but, in a few months, you will look back at this day and laugh, and chuckle at those town hall sevens trying to attack you.
a) Upgrade you splash damages (Wizard Towers, Mortars) first, then your air defenses, then your archer towers, then your cannons, and then your X-Bows. Don't worry too much about X-Bows, as they are very expensive and take a long time to upgrade. Town Hall 9s are well off with only level one X-Bows.

In all honesty you should attack them if they dont have above level 5 mortars because it can be quite easy to steal all their resources with a goblin army if non prepared, none the less you could get screwed over by underestimating their 2 xbows....
Yes this is so tru I'm lvl 72 with a premature lvl 9 th and its dificult to upgrade but its not impossible just takes patients and time but I don't focuse on that much im for my clan (valyrian forge) my clan comes first while enjoyin the game it's just a game i messed up now I'm just laughin at my self no need to quit or get made at SC it's not their faults it's the over abitious minds of the ppl that gem their town halls to get moreQuote:

Just finished all 24 pages. Some great info in there thanks guys. I'm new to the forum and have just gotten to TH8 and am probably a little light on some defence buildings and walls. I've learned a lot from all the reading and am completely revamping my Clan set up etc
But yeah, I mainly scooted ahead TH wise to try and level up my troops asap and get the other cool troops that not many people seem to use haha. I think I've tuned in just in time.

since the higher you go, the less loot you will get against lowers TH level.
when you upgrade the higher level with lower level troops and defense, that doesn't help at all.

The coc guide is a free app on iTunes and explains this. I was started upgrading prematurely too using left over gems from builders huts when I read it. I bought th level 7 then thought better of it I'm still maxing out stuff 2 months later with about another month to go before looking at lvl 8 th I was greedy and impatient but learnt. no one can blame sc for doing this as most apps have in game purchases that's how they make the money to keep the games going otherwise you'd be paying to download then probably a subscription to play ether monthly yearly ect. I suggest researching before doing to new players in my clan and advise to max out before hand as raiders ran over me for the first few weeks until I was told by my former leader whee I was going wrong. I upgraded to TH 8 about Lvl 65 (now Lvl 73) and have been slowly upgrading all my defensive buildings.
The biggest issue is you need 1.5million to upgrade tesla to Lvl 3 and it takes about a week of farming to get there.
all my walls are Lvl 6/7, air defence are all Lvl 5/6, cannons all Lvl 9/10, archer towers all Lvl 9, WT all Lvl 4/5 and mortals all Lvl 6/7 yet I still keep getting hammered in the 1500-1800 trophy range.
I have also upgraded all my troops and spells to Lvl 4/5 except for healer and dragon (both Lvl 2)
any suggestions on how to farm more resources without spending $$$$ is most welcome

Oh I would get some diamonds (500 is the cheapest) just to speed up you resource collection & a longer Shield Time period (250 for week). It helps alot, but it lasts 24hrs. You lose it if you want to upgrade that specific mine.
Also take advantage of the Shield given after lost battle. If you decide to raid someone you lose your sheild too. Leaving you open for REVENGE!

The update did away with the town hall loot penalty, at least to an extent. To what extent is this guide still applicable? Is upgrading to TH8 before maxing TH7 still the cardinal sin it used to be?

A higher level Town Hall with low level defenses isn't the end of the game. If you spend a few hours studying the wikia that many people created to help others it is possible to design a village that will still win every so often. A very experienced player will be able to 3 star win on you easily but there is quite a few gamers with maximum upgraded troops and mediocre skills.
Put all of your resources into army camps so you can have as many troops as possible and try to find a good clan. Not necessarily a high trophy clan, but a clan that is fairly active and could make good use of the troops you would be able to donate them. For instance, a th9/10 can have level 6 troops and they would be a huge help to th5/6 players. I see lots of villages with th9/10 and no clan and think to myself why is that even possible.
So, there are options besides spending a lot of money on gems. I purchased 2500 gems to get more builder huts and have no regrets. With the achievements I should be able to get a fifth builder but i might just get another gem package. The builder huts are so tiny and boring but they are very important!
Also, in the loading screen is says "upgrading defenses is just as important as upgrading offenses". So there's little room for blaming the game that you didn't bother to read or comprehend the message. :rolleyes:

Honestly, there is no right or wrong. You upg ur th and u reap all the benefits of building extra towers and such likes. Just play the game, what is done is done. Just make sure you do a better job for your next th. :rolleyes:

Several times a week I deter people from prematurely upgrading their town halls, I will use this post a lot, thanks, explains it perfectly! :)

Just take up the challenge, max your offense and go farming.
tons of people have recovered from a premature TH, I myself am in the middle of it.
This is possible to overcome i had a lvl 10 th with all my defenses at very low lvls. I am now a maxed TH 10 with everything, but walls maxed. You can get over this with out gems i have spent about 100$ quite low for my clan but all in all not hard to over come.
A great thread, I first enjoyed reading it months ago, however since the new disco balls have been added to the game the base upgrade priority section has become seriously outdated. I think it should be changed to something along these lines.
Base Upgrade Priority:
Offense and defense draw largely from separate resource pools, but if there’s ever a choice between them, always upgrade offense first. As far as upgrading your defenses, your top priorities should be at Th10 to build 2 inferno towers and centralise them, they are going to make your premie base almost un-farmable to most raiders, even if your other defences are only at Th7 level. After you have the IT's (set on multi beam) you can do the clan castle, mortars, wizard towers, and Xbows. If your a premature Th9 you should upgrade to Th10 as soon as possible to be able to get the amazing disco balls (Inferno towers on multi beam).

I just saw this forum yesterday. I soon found out that I was in big trouble.
A long time ago, I wanted to upgrade some of my troops for aesthetics purposes. I rushed in to TH9 to max my Barb, Archers, Giants, Gobs, WB, and Healer. Now they are all maxed out and I've been using this attack strategy for the longest time. I totally forgot to upgrade my other units. Now, I heard that BAM,Balloonions, or Mass Hogs are better attack strategies. I can't pass 2000+ trophies with this set up. Please help.
My units level are the ff.
Balloons (currently upgrading to level 4)
Gobs (max)
Wiz (level 3)
Dragon (max for th9)
Hog (level 2)
Minions (level 1)
others at level 1
BK level 5
AQ level 3
My questions are:
1. What unit should I level up first?
2. Is BAM a good strategy to farm and to reach Masters? If yes, can a level 1 Minion do the job?
3. What other attack strategies should I also try aside from the others mentioned above?
4. I attached pics of my base and upgrades. What should I prioritize moving forward?

You aren't in bad shape. I would hold off on increasing trophies though, and focus on finding a nice farming range to level up the rest of your buildings/troops.
You are not in a terrible shape.
Why do you want to go to Masters. With the troops you have it is going to be very difficult anyway. I would suggest you stay in Gold 1 + C3 range and farm.
Defense wise, focus on wizard towers (plus that last mortar) until they are maxed. Then max CC also. It is useful both in defense and offense.
Offense wise, focus on loons and minions. Loonion is the best attack strategy for TH9 I would say. In between, when you can, max wizards too. Forget about hogs, they are kind of outdated now. Rather spend the DE on heroes.
I think this is more than enough for a start. When you have accomplished this, then yu can start thinking about the other upgrades priorities.
Both balloon and wizard get real big boost when you upgrade them for TH 9 level. I suggest you concentrate on these two while upgrading minion in between.
You're actually not in that bad shape. You're doing a lot better than I was when I was at TH5, but since then I've realized my mistakes and slowed down, spending 4 months at TH7 and catching everything up.
I think that this was a great post and very informative, I will be honest and admit that I am TH10 that is somewhat pre-mature. I had no clue that there were loot penalties when I started playing. Luckily for me I am not even close to being as bad off as some of the bases pictured here! I am actually testing the information in this post on another account, and it appears to be dead on.

luckily you haven't go to TH10. If you do that, you have to reset your game.
you're a premie TH9, it is very cureable and it's not so hard to do

When I upgrade my TH to 9, my condition was more or less like you with one difference. Honestly I've got a 4th builder today only. Now, since you got 5 builders right of the bat, your condition can be improved faster.Quote:

My last two brain cells are playing freeze tag, so please bear with me. After reading everything, it seems that I should immediately build up my troops, army camps, archer towers, mortars and cannons, no? After that, focus on the walls? I know that I need to keep my elixir and gold down as I'll be an easy target.

In general you want to focus on offense first. If your defense is very under-leveled, it will take a very long time for it to be upgraded. So just assume a 100% loss every time, and plan accordingly. If you increase your offense, at least you will be able to raid enough to continue upgrading things.Quote:

I'm not sure if you mentioned your TH level, but I didn't see it. The advice would change a lot depending where you are from TH8-TH10. I should have specified that, sorry. Also your current trophy level.
Again, in general, focus on offense. So that means maxing those army camps, and focusing your troop upgrades on the troops you use. Your best bet right now will be barbarians and archers, because they are fast, cheap, and highly effective troops that all players use at all levels.
You'll want to use those barbs and archers to find bases with full collectors (not storages) that are outside the walls. Again, assume you will be crushed 100% when you log off, but don't let that bother you. This game is about attacking. So don't break your shield unless you can be on to launch several raids, then try to spend whatever you can before you log off.
Edit: I saw an earlier pic that you have TH9. Ok, all hope is not lost. I would recommend a trophy range around 1500, and just focus your barbs and archers on picking off collectors. You can visually tell (especially for elixir pumps) how full they are. It will be tedious at first, but it is possible to recover.

5. At this point, trying to defend yourself is still a low priority, but you can recover your lost by overwhelming your targets with superior army number. This phase ends when you got your max upgrade troops (lvl 6).
Phase 3:
1. At this point, farming won't that much problem for you since you already got max camp and troops upgrade. Keep your lab busy upgrading spells and dark creatures.
2. Use one builder to upgrade your barracks / dark barracks.
3. Use 3 builders to upgrade your defenses. Whichever you feel like.
4. Use 1 builder to concentrate on x-bow.
5. You should have ample defense by this time, at least against TH 8 tryists or other premmie TH 9. So you can begin to actually pile up your gold for higher level upgrade like x-bows. Having 1 builder dedicated to x-bow keep your base strong (I've learned upgrading them both at once wasn't the smartest idea). This phase ends when your x-bows are maxed. Stay in gold league for more tangible loot.
Phase 4:
1. At this step, you'd want to make your base looks like a real TH 9.
2. Get whatever upgrade (laboratory/ barracks) that require elixir. By this time, elixir shouldn't be a problem. You'll be sitting at 6-7 mill all the time.
3. Use 3 builders to keep upgrading your defenses. Air defs are a good idea here. And tesla too if you haven't upgrading them.
4. Use 1 builder to keep on your heroes.
5. Use 1 builder to do the walls. Should be around lvl 8-9 walls at this time.
6. This phase ends after you have completed your remaining defenses. Try higher gold or crystal for more loot. The occasional pushing is also a good idea if you get bored.
Phase 5:
1. Now you're real TH 9 ! Elixir wasn't that important anymore. Just do whatever you want with them.
2. Concentrate on farming dark elixir. Use 1 or 2 builders for heroes.
3. Have 1 builder for walls and the other 2 for whatever you want.
4. Make crystal your home, do the push to master if you want, try different army combos.
5. Prepare yourself for TH 10 (if you want). Now you know not to go premmie anymore.
6. Have fun. Happy clashing.

First, upgrade your lab... this is the most important thing.
And you have to get at least lv. 5 barbarian and Lv.5 archers, they are very strong
If you have gem, then gem this progress, if not you can progress slowly...
when your lab and troops is upgrading, you have to focus on spell factory upgrade and army camps upgrade. Get them to the best levels you can.
forget your def first and always dump your gold into walls so you're not getting farmed
once you have both lv.5 archers and barbarians, 3/4 spells to use and 200+ camps space...
you should have no problem playing on gold league
