I doubt he 'groomed her' through the game. This game has no private messages, so that part of the article is weird. Either he chatted her up in global, in which case there must have been others around to see what was happening, or he must have started up a private clan with the two of them.
What was probably more likely is that he met her in global, exchanged mail ID's and carried on in a medium outside the game. This game is filled with kids, but lack of parental control is more to blame than the game itself, sadly.
