Could use about 9000 now in a matter of seconds... on 2 Archer Towers. :o
I sometimes gem 1 or 2 days of an upgrading building because I dont like sitting on too much elixir but usually around 2-4 weeks.
2000 gems would last me ~2 months
I bought 2500 gems 11 months ago and still have 1500.
For me the average upgrade time is about 5 days. I probably need to speed about 180 - 240 gems to keep those workers busy every 5 days. So it's probably about 40 days - this is my future gem usage plan - previously i spent a lot of gems to cut build time off a lot of structures so i could spend my resources and play more often but thats just not logical.
Bout 500 a week, slightly more on push. Struggling in the clouds at 3800 for bout 600 a week. Its certainly big pay to win if you want to see your name on a list, but less than i spend on the kids xbox live/play station subscriptions and poxy minecraft texture packs keeps me happily boosting and creeping the UK200
2000 Gems.... Well, sometimes it's just a second or two.
I use in-game gems for boosting barracks only when farming, and I don't buy. I decided not to get the 5th builder and save the gems for a big push near end-game - I'm at 3300 gems and counting, and when I hit Champs next summer it will add another 2000.
For my farming style, I haven't needed the 5th builder. It would only increase the speed at which my defenses finish at any given town hall level, and the amount of time I'd be grinding walls with 5 idle builders. Now I have occasional loot laying around to pour into walls while upgrading.
I think only the hard-corest of farmers or gemmers can make good use of the 5th builder most of the time.
