If it takes 6 days to get max storages then that's 12 walls per week-ish. (24 due to elixir walls?)
Boost barracks each day for 6 days (2 hour sessions), max storages each time, upgrade 24 walls a day. 24*6=144 walls in a week!
From my experience the best way to upgrade walls is to click on a wall then select upgrade.
But seriously, you want to upgrade a wall whenever you get 500k. No need to wait until you have 1 mill loot. But just make sure you have enough gold after upgrading a wall to hit next for a while(loot can be hard to com by).
