And the point of having Dark Elixir troops is?

So as of right now, dark elixir troops seem fairly useless. Too expensive (Golem, valkyrie), Too easily taken out (A few Air bombs will halt full force minion attacks) or just kinda pointless (Valkyrie and Hog riders IMO).
Everything they can do I can do just as effectively using normal elixir troops, albeit using two troop types and such. Golems are a taboo for farmers (which a lot the community is), and the other troops' niche is kinda pointless. Flying archer goblin hybrid? Nope says Air bombs. Troops that jump walls? it doesn't really matter with the correct base setup, they're gonna get mauled. High AOE damage troop? Great, but I can three star bases just as easily using my normal farming setup.
Extremely high HP damage soaking troop? Good luck sustaining consistent usage.

Basically (sorry for wall of text), I find Dark elixir troops to be useless. Upgraded sure, they might be good but I'd much rather spend the hardest lootable resource in the game on an immortal troop than training and upgrading a one time use troop.

No troop is good at level 1. Level 5 hog riders are extremely powerful and deal 90 damage per seconds whilst sponging damage in groups and moving quickly between targets. Please name me another infantry level tier 1 troop which is good at level 1.

i think minions are useful in killing cannons and mortars.

Yeah have fun upgrading that hog rider.

I could probably level up my barb king 2-3 times with the amount of delixir you need to spend in order to upgrade them.

Also, they cost the most expensive resource in the game. If they aren't good from the get go, and require me to spend even MORE of the most expensive resource in the game then its a big nono.

Sorry, forgot to add this. However, I do think that there should be more of a sustainable source of dark elixir rather than having one level 3 drill which gives you 45 per hour. It costs me roughly that to make a hog rider, so if I use 5 that would be 5 hours until I got that dark elixir back. They should either add more drills or triple how much they produce, especially for the upgrade cost. Another idea was having the dark barracks to produce troops made with elixir, but need dark elixir to upgrade and dark elixir to upgrade the barracks level.

Both minions and golems are used. I assume there's a niche for the other two as well. Minions are great when used well, and lots of top players use golems.

I said infantry level tier 1 troop. These are just the equivalent to the barbarian, archer, goblin and giant.

Have fun upgrading your barbarian king, which upgrades so little each time and takes longer to regenerate. I trust I won't see you complaining when it takes 4 months to get it from level 20 to 30? No? Not even worth the builder space.

At this point, I can't see the harm in adding a dark elixir drill to TH7.

Anyone who was going to gem the BK already has at this point. Might as well just add more DE into the economy by adding a third drill. Also, let us TH8ers upgrade the drill to level 4.

TH7 - 1 lvl 2 max
TH8 - 2 lvl 4 max
TH9 - 3 lvl 6 max

This would be good for everyone, more DE to loot if you give it to more than those elite few who are practically unraidable with a farming army anyways. (as those are the only people with 2 max level drills).

I think this is the most elegant solution. No one is using DE troops because DE is far too valuable at the moment. Devaluing DE a little by adding more drills will help ease people into DE troop usage.

It depends where you're raiding at. If you for one moment expect to gain dark elixir easily whilst farming at between 1200-1600 then you're an idiot. I'm at 2100 trophies and am gaining over 1000 with every raid. Obviously supercell wanted people to push their trophies to get the resource, and it works out well when you do. The troops are of no use to you if you're going to farm with them, which everybody knows.

Now back to the question of the thread: And the point of having Dark Elixir troops is? For high level gameplay, where you earn it back and they're extremely useful when leveled.

Oh, and by the way, just to let everyone know - level 1 archers suck so you should stop using them altogether.

Do you really think dark elixir troops are useless? Suppose yours are level 1... Try attacking with level 1 archers and barbarians to see how they do! haha :P

Did I suggest you had to? Or was it simply a measure of the comparison themselves? Exactly. You can't say they're awful at level 1, and you certainly can't say you won't make enough back if you're not using them at the trophy level you're supposed to. The aim of the game is to climb trophies, people just decide to farm. They add features in for people to climb trophies which isn't a blind correlation.

If you're going to quote me, at least quote the whole point. That was in reference to earning the dark elixir back through farming which is extremely unlikely.

If you find that DE troops don't suit your needs, it's very, very easy not to use them. If others find them useful, they can experiment and use them as they see fit.

there's really nothing difficult about this. They're useless for your current needs. I don't dispute that. I keep a few minions around and find them helpful on occasion. My younger clanmates appreciate having them donated because they're new-ish and several of them can't train them on their own.

i've heard positive things about Valkyries as CC troops and would like to try that out for myself.

your experience rings true for you. Not necessarily for others. If the other ideas expressed here don't allow DE troops to fit into your plans... again, you need not feel obligated to use them. But there is a wide array of folks with other goals who find them to be valuable. As you may at some point.

I've seen some amazing attacks with de troops. It's about strategy and troop placement. Obviously lvl 1 of any troop is going to be inferior. Sometimes it seems people expect to release fruit flies and see the town fall simply because they invested money or a misguided idea of what they expect the de troops to be.

I do see some merit in the idea of using regular elixir for building and de for upgrades as as you get higher ( as mentioned by a preious poster) the elix maxes out as there is nothing to use it for( something sc should address maybe). Even a hoss one of a kind decoration. Who knows? I will have to give the idea more thought.

in the end, this thread reminded me if my initial let down feelings when I first got balloons. I expected carnage, instead they went poof.. Then my former clan leader gave my fully lvld ballons, I then truly saw what I was expecting with the balloons. Complete carnage...

On the topic of the difficulty in getting de, I easily get it from raids with out lightening.. When I'd rather get the purple stuff or gold. Again it's probably differences in attack strategy:)

I see massive harm..... Probably 80% TH 7s zap dark elixir with ease (even FLAMMy) and get more than we higher town halls.... TH8 feel loot penalty effects and TH9 feel it much heavier whereas they can't really touch TH7s. S I think the loot buff is already good for them.... Can't imaging going TH9 but I will soon.....

But leveling up Dark Elixir troops is still MILES more frustrating than leveling up and normal troop.

DHKany, I am also a farmer but as much as I never liked the idea of using dark troops its growing on me now. I'm a very efficient farmer and I never go looting for DE. Yet, I have still managed to gain enough DE for my Queen and BK to level 9 right now. I farm in the 1300-1700 range mostly. Everyone that complains about the cost of DE are the ones that stay in the low end of the trophy ranges. Its these dame people that complain about lightning strikes on their DE. I am of the same logic that the DE is better spent on a more permanent troop like the King and Queen but its also getting to the point where the king is sucking up a lot of builder time as well. He sleeps more than enough and factoring upgrade times as well he's useless 90% of the time. The point is that I am now constantly maxing my DE storage when I farm for gold so might as well either build DE troops or do DE upgrades. Just like everyone says, any level 1 troop is rather poor but upgraded they become invaluable if used in the right hands. When the BK came out he was a pretty big disappointment and still sort of is but at least at the higher levels I see that his can be valuable in certain situations now. As a farmer you should recognize that having an extra barrack or two also speeds up troop production time considerably. That equals more raids and more loot as well.

Learn how to use the troops, look for the value in them and enjoy the alternative that they provide. I'm a farmer and i'm proud to say that I can use Golems and DE troops to farm. Why? Cause i'm a better farmer than you....

How does one judge who is the better farmer anyways? Farming is about luck as well.

Yep, it's fine. I'll keep using my level 5 hogs. Recoup costs? I'll let my drills regain that while I sleep. Winning percentage? 80%. Normal troops- bore me.

I'm sure you'll agree that hog riders are awesome.

I raided a base last night and they had a bunch of giants as CC troops, I think they were lvl6, I launched 2 minions and took them out as they stood there defenseless.

I'm at TH7, so needless to say, I have no dark elixir drill, and yet I have managed to get the barb king, level him to level two, and also level my minions to level two, and I have over 7k dark elixir in storage.

Farming it is easy.

I have managed to accomplish this, while taking 25+ minions into EVERY battle.

If you achieved this without lightning spells, well done - if you achieved this without raising your trophy level, you're an idiot as you could be gaining much much more. But most to the point, what is the point of having dark elixir troops? You've just answered this thread. OP is an idiot. There are several uses.:)

I raid with my troops, and use lightning as a last resort. Lightning is part of the game, and I won't deny using it, but I use it more often on hard-to-reach mortars and air defense, and CC troops.

I am in the 1,750 trophy range at the moment. There is plenty of de here for the taking.

Yup it's a bold statement but since you created this thread I assume that you aren't farming enough DE otherwise you wouldn't be complaining about the lack of it. I assume i'm a more efficient farmer as I can readily donate golems, hog riders pekkas and dragons without worrying about running low on DE or Elixir as well as still being able to keep up with my upgrades using 5 builders. My BK is always upgrading too so i'm not neglecting him due to low DE.

Learn how to use the troops instead of complaining about them. Then you will realize that having 1/2 extra barracks significantly increases your raid time. I used to hate healers but at one point learned how to use them and now can successfully 3 star most layouts IF i choose to use 1 with my farming army.

I'd say they really diversify army composition. Before it used to be 10-12 dragons with lightning for auto win, but now you can actually see the top players tweaking and trying out new builds, even if its primarily the Golem. Even so, its a step in the right direction to changing gameplay.

And honestly, DE isn't hard to get at all, and the price of the troops aren't bad. If you think about it, the DE troops are only supplementing, not replacing, the regular troops. In that regard, if you train say 1 golem every other raid and adjust the number of troops qued in your regular barracks, it can help reduce training time.

So they do serve a purpose, but maybe not for everyone. After all, SC has only just begun to introduce them to the game, so you can't really say whether or not DE troops have a use or impact just yet. To each his own, basically..

Hog riders have close to the health of giants, and almost 3 times the attack, even with the extra space. Theyre twice as fast, they can jump over walls, and u can train them without taking up normal barracks space.

But a big reason i use them is the novelty. With all the strategies discussed here, its almost like a real life battle. I almost feel like some people are forgetting what CoC is- a game. Not a career. A game. Its fun to use troops that are different from the ones ive been using for the past 10 months. I like donating them, everyone appreciates it as im the only one with high level dark troops in my clan.

I use 15ish every battle, and im gaining 1500 dark elix every day. I only attack 5 times a day, and my drills are lvl 4. I dont see the point of lightning on storages for me- gold is more valuable than dark eli IMO. So dark elixir is not a problem.

My barb king is only lvl 2, and he'll stay that way for a while. It gets longer to recharge every time, and while that doesnt matter if he heals while im sleeping, it does if im waiting to attack. In addition to that, he cant attack while hes upgrading, while dark troops can.

So thats y i use hogs.

To make it sleep longer ?

IMHO I don't find hog riders the best use of DE. They take up an awkward 6 space, take 5 mins to train, and cost 30 DE at L1 where they are quite weak.

I prefer minions for farming, but I haven't ever tried hogs for trophy hunting.

They are a good situational troop. I once managed to take out a storage with a few minions because it wasnt guarded by any air shooting towers haha
