Just a quick opinion on whether level 6 baloons are a worthy troop. I understand they're not for everyone. I have used them at 2400+ and they do fine depending on deployment strategy.
I've even had them used against me and I lost. So just a thread to debate baloons (obviously other troops are better/worse)
Perhaps as a medium tier type spam troop. Purely curious.

They are BRUTAL with rage against moderately air defended bases, but add an x-bow to that and you will struggle.

Although i do have just moderated air defense (3 level 4), but majority of players have similar air defense.
I often got revenged with 6 dragons and i dont recall them did as much damage as those balloons. That was the only time i give full respect to that guy, some skills he got.
ps: he didnt even need to lighting one of my air defense. (where as all the dragons attacked i got usually destroy 1 AD first)

You are correct, without proper meat shields a small number of balloons is weak. However, a big bunch of them will one-shot anything.Quote:

Just for a fun attack in the morning I will use 1 or 2 dragons to act like air giants and take all the fire from the air defense while my 20 balloons just destroy everything and then send in 20 minions as a cleanup crew. I deploy these very spread out to make the effect of any air mines negligible. Almost guaranteed to get 3 stars unless they have lvl 5 or 6 wizard towers and teslas.

A L10 balloon would be useless IMHO...never ever seen them successfully deployed. SC should replace these with another troop in the next update. However, am happy to be proved wrong if someone can demonstrate how they an be effective. But I just can't see it.

Basically its a question of Ground VS air troops army distribution.
By adding minion/balloon into your usualy ground army combo, the enemy base defense dps is increased by the 4 Air def+ Black air mine.
Meaning you are facing a "stronger" enemy per se, and to quote hannibal, "Worst of both world".
So if you focus only on an All Air troop army, you are effectively removing 5 cannons, 3 mortar, giant bomb out of the defense's dps.
Not to mention wall defense is excluded, no clustering behind walls, no time wasted to clear walls, and lesser splash dmg from wiz.
So its either 90% ground army, or 90% air army, anything inbetween is facing the base's Max dps.
I used 5 level 6 balloons on defence for when I slept yesterday and they completely destroyed 15 level 6 giants, then went over to a group of about 40 archers and killed them with their last attack thing. I'm at 2100 trophies too.
They are very good with rage, but to be honest IMO their peak time is at th5 where so many people have out the wall air defences or in the first row. I disagree with people saying they need large numbers. At th5 and six i only needed three and that got me very easy three stars, since most of them have a non protected air defence or easily taken down by giants, I took down the archer towers distracted by giants pretty fast and the cannons and mortars can't do anything. In fact I prefer being donated level 6 balloons than a level 3 dragon since four balloons can take down anything with ease which I attack and only go for defences. (I'm th7)Quote:
