Saving large amounts of resources

So I've been a th 9 for a couple weeks and I'm starting to realize the ridiculous amounts of gold/elixer required to upgrade things. (Lvl 6 giants in this situation) My question is how the hell do people manage to save this much? While holding anything over 3 mil, you can be raided for 350k. Is it just required to stay on coc for a couple hours while tou raid with boosted barracks? If that's the case, is there a way to do it if you simply dont have that time? It all seems too time consuming....not challenging....just time consuming.

Until you have maxed splash and xbows you won't be able to defend very well...In practice you are a maxed th8 with new walls and without the protection from th10s attacks. The only things you can do are

- Put th outside (in the left corner)
- Stay in gold leagues
- Try to avoid to save at the same time large amounts of gold and dark elixir

I assure you that once you have maxed splash and good walls you will receive almost only th snipes

just try to be online when you already have 4-5 million.
it really bad when people attacking you and getting 350k gold and elix with 1k de. but the game is really clash of clans that is why you should farm more when the builder is already almost done.

I really feel the huge grind difference in th8 compared to th9.
in th8 i can get at least 6-7m while in th9 i only average 4-5m

i just took my barbs to 6, and am saving up for archers to 6 right now. basically, once you're up over 3 mil of a resource don't break your shield unless you're going to be able to make a significant chunk of progress. i've been trying to get about a mil+ each time i break the shield before i have to log off and get hit again. your resource collectors will basically negate the 2 attacks per day you'll face if you don't break your shield. also, leave your th outside in the corner obviously. i've taken 4 attacks since my elixir went above 3 mil - it is at 5 mil now. 2 were th snipes, one was for 300k, one was for 100k. so, it really isn't that bad - i took those over ~2 days, my collectors easily outgain that.
