I think this piece is actually pretty awesome! I really like the effects and the flow of it! Unlike hammy I actually do like the darkness around the piece, as it really makes you focus on the render!
To improve I would suggest adding a few adjustment layers like: curves, exposure, vibrancy, colour look up and gradient maps as this will really help to give the piece more depth! Can I also suggest you use an unsharpen mask? Your piece seems a little low in quality atm so I think that would help :) A few more effects wouldn't go a miss either, maybe a few small white splatters? Also maybe some fractals set on colour dodge?
