Ok, so I've been working on my forest for almost a year. I just hit 40 obstacles, with 39 being where I want them. The 40th *might* not get removed because its a headstone. My question is, if I'm sitting at 40 with a gem box, a Christmas tree, and 2 headstones can any more new obstacles spawn? Do those 4 unique obstacles count?

I don't know, but won't you find out in 8 hrs?

have a look for a clan called runway, with one member also called runway. It's got a white cross on black background as the emblem, and I think he has about 1300 trophies.
he retired about a year and a half ago, so I think he has hit maximum obstacles, and he has a headstone.
Time will tell. But I wouldn't count Xmas trees and headstones in the equation. Those don't reward you with gems so I would think they are different.
Headstones do not count as obstacles. I have 40 trees a gem box and 2 headstones.
