Im in your position right now but i already made my mind. I will go with gowipe because i already have dragons thats pretty much the same with lvl 4 hogs.
I know that hogs can be used in many ways but gowipe look extra cool.

Actually this isn't correct. lvl 3 giant bombs do 225 damage. To hogs, that damage is increased by 50% to 337.5. Level 3 hogs have 360 hitpoints.
So a full health level 3 hog can withstand a single giant bomb.
As for the 1 star versus 3 star thing for hogs, you're quite right in the case where someone is taking pretty much all hogs, aside from a few archers to deal with the cc. What a lot of my clan is doing now is reducing the number of hogs and bringing some additional wizards/witches to follow the hogs. This allows for a good possibility of getting 2 stars if the hogs don't clear all the defenses. And if all splash damage defenses are gone, but the hogs are done due to traps etc, getting the 3 star with witches/wizards and of course your king, has a lot higher possibility.
There's a few folks that are still th8 in my clan with maxed hogs (lvl 4), and 95% (or higher) of their attacks are getting 3 stars on th8's using hogs/wizards/witch.
As for me... I use GoWiPe, however I'm attacking th10's - and yes, mine is maxed.
I guess you could classify me as "pro-hog" for th8's and "pro-gowipe" against higher bases. I'd suggest going hog upgrade to level 4 first, then GoWipe troops in preparation for using them later on.
And personally, I've yet to see in clan wars, a GoWipe from a th8 on one of our th8's and achieve a 3-star. But I've seen several hog attacks with the 3 star. (maybe we've never had a war with anyone competent enough to pull it off)

It was a mistake. But practically, they still die from the GB. A mortar strike, a wizard tower hit, anything that hits them before the heal ticks will leave them dead. And that is even where they are actually at full health. But lvl 4 Hogs will have slightly higher margin of error.
However, I do take your point. And thanks for sharing your experience. I still haven't decided yet, so if I have 30k DE when the lab is free, I might go for Hog instead of Pekka.
Also, about the number of hogs. You are right, but if I want to 3 star a mid-high TH8 with properly placed CC, I need to take a lot of hogs. 2-3 are spent on luring the CC. The rest are needed to wipe out the defences while defence and BK beats up on them. When attacking an early TH8, I do take less hogs and more wizards. Even lvl 4 wizards do a lot of damage.
And as I mentioned, I am not an expert hog user. So sometimes my heals are not optimally placed. Sometimes luring goes slightly wrong. Even one small mistake costs lvl 2 hogs a lot. I sincerely hope it will be different for lvl 4 hogs. I know GBs will still be the killer though - that is by design and quite fine in my opinion.
I want GoWiPe mainly for variety and less risky if less rewarding attacks as well as for practice when I need to use it later as a TH9. Plus, it will help if I want to push for Champions :)
I don't know about Hogs, but there are many TH8 layouts that will not be 3 starred by lvl 3 dragons except perhaps by the best attackers. I have yet to be 3 starred by a mass dragon attack, and even the 2 star takes multiple tries eg 8 or 9 tries. Of course, intelligent attackers 2 star it with cheaper armies. I have been 3 starred only by a mid-level TH9 yet, and only once.
I am nearly maxed out TH8 with maxed out GoWiPe troops (Golem lvl3, Wiz lvl5, Peks lvl3, wallbreaker lvl5) and my hogs are still lvl 1... i never used hogs ever since i started playing clash simply because 2 upgraded giant bombs are all over the map now and a lvl 2,3 or 4 hogs will be roasted with those giant bombs alone. basic gowipe can take down a basic TH9 and get at least 2stars. plus i enjoy the gowipe ground game than hogs that jumps over walls. thats just my opinion.
Yep, if a heal isn't already going, the next hit from a wiz tower means "buh-bye hogs".
I spend a fair amount of time reviewing bases, helping out other clan members look for problem areas. And the ones that get people aren't the double giant bomb areas, it's those that are separated by a builder hut or similar... i.e. giant bomb which could be a tesla, then go around a corner and BOOM another giant bomb. Even level 5 hogs have trouble recovering from those.

Not every base is 3 starrable with both hogs and drags. It's usually one or the other. If you show me your base, I will tell you how another TH8 can 3 star it. If you don't want to share it publicly, feel free to pm me a link or something. Every base has a weakness so it's about figuring out which troops are best to exploit the weakness.
If you want to go with GoWiPe then it's your choice, but it shouldn't be endorsed as if its a better strategy.
Hogs are better than GoWiPe. Unless you are terrible with both your experience with hogs will be better. Even if you are really good with GoWiPe it is still not a reliable 3 star.
Hey guys, I have been sick for a week and so haven't been on the forum much. Thanks a lot for all the suggestions and tips.
I have finally decided to upgrade my Hogs instead of Pekkas. Why? There are two main reasons:
1. 3 starring scouted bases. I usually hold my 2nd attack for a base that hasn't been 3 starred. So, there are plenty of bases where the locations of 2 or even 3 giant bombs are known, making the hog attack much more likely to be successful. Plus, with lvl 4 Hogs, I can take down a not so strong TH9 too :D
2. High lvl hogs can make taking down badly placed ADs very easy. So, a good complement to my lvl 3 dragons.
Again, thanks for taking the time to help me out.
